Thursday night, my CGC class passed their test and Friday night, my CGC Urban class passed their test!
To watch these owners and their dogs grow has been such a blessing. They have all worked so hard and I am very proud of them!

Thank you Pet Supplies Plus in Minot for letting us train their and the Lucky Bowl for allowing us to hang out with our dogs while we ate.

I'm holding a pack walk tomorrow for all my students.

Location: Woodland Trails
Time: Saturday, Oct 10th at 7pm
Rules: Your dog must know a proper heel and stay in their heeling position throughout the entire walk.

We will start the walk at 7pm so please show up early as parking is always hard to find. We are going to stroll through the trails and check out all the pumpkins as a group

Meet Zeus, previously known as Odin, previously known as Perseus or Percy! He is a lot of dog weighing in at 145lbs at four years old. He is half St. Bernard and half mastiff.

History on this guy:
Perseus was born into rescue at FBS. He was adopted by his first owners who moved him to SC with them where he was attacked by their GSDs on multiple occasions. After a ton of planning, a bunch of gracious individuals coming together to transport this guy back to ND, he was finally placed back with FBS. He then went to his second home where he had some issues with their chickens and on one occasion bit his owner. He then received some training in Bismarck per FBS recommendations to try get him some much needed manners. After completion of training, he was adopted a third time and moved with his newest owners to MN where he remained for three years. After getting into a few serious dog fights with their other dog, it was determined that he needed to be returned to FBS due to small children being in close proximity to the dogs during their most recent fight.

On Wednesday Cristie and I met his owner in Fargo and brought him back to Carpio. He has quite a few behavioral issues that need intensive training in order for him to meet his rehabilitation goals. To say this guy has been through a lot in his four short years is an understatement!

Zeus (as what I have been calling him) is unpredictable and demonstrates very severe behavioral issues. He is not afraid to let you know when he doesn't like doing something. He also has no sense of his size. We are working in figuring out what his triggers are with other dogs.

I am unsure what his future will look like but as long as he is with me, I am going to do everything I can to rehabilitate him and fix his unbalanced self.
It will be a rough and wild ride for the both of us but we are in it together!

Luca is new here. He is going to be hanging out with us for 6 weeks. He has previously been trained by other trainers in CA but then his owners moved to ND and his issues progressed. He's a cool dude with bad behavior but not for long!

His owners have done really well at being proactive to make sure he doesn't bite anyone else and they also muzzle trained him which is amazing! I always appreciate owners being responsible and doing what they know is best for their dogs and the people around them.

Follow along as this guy is going to be making some big changes in the weeks to come.

We added another board and train to the mix. Winter is with us for 6 weeks. Here we are working on her being calm. Her owners want her to be relaxed as she can be super anxious and want to go, go, go. They want to be able to take her out more and allow her to have more real world experiences.

As always, we start teaching dogs to have a calm state of mind. Here, I am teaching the building blocks of the "place" command.

This is the stuff that most dog trainers don't show because it's not perfect. Here you can see her breaking position and trying to get off the cot while I block her.
I'm simply showing her the criteria of the place command by using spatial pressure.

Her owners already use an E-Collar and prong collar on her. However, before I layer tools onto basic commands, I want to teach her what the picture is supposed to look like. That way when I do layer her tools ontop of the commands, it's easier for her to understand what I want.

When correcting bad behaviors, we do not need to condition a dog to the tools being used. However, it would be unfair to correct her in this situation when she doesn't know what the expectations are which is why I am only using her leash and spatial pressure.

Day 3 with Atlas. Look at the improvement in this guy!
I say it alot, I know but calm state of mind is the foundation to everything we will be doing here with him.
