Friends of Carmichael Canine Corral

Friends of Carmichael Canine Corral The Canine Corral was the first off-leash dog park to be developed in Carmichael, California. It has been in operation for nearly twenty years.

The first off leash dog park to be developed in the Sacramento County, CCCA is an association of members using the Carmichael Dog Park located in the Carmichael Park. In 1998 Laverne Shell, a Carmichael resident, collected 120 signatures on a petition from local residents. The petition asked the Carmichael Recreation and Park District (CRPD) to designate an off-leash area for dogs and their owners

to socialize and exercise. Some of the petition signers started to work on plans to raise funds for the park. CRPD designated an area from an existing picnic sites in Carmichael Park. Several years passed. Residents organized the Carmichael Dog Park Society (CDPS) to support development of the facility. In 2011, the name of the park was changed to the Carmichael Canine Corral. The Corral has become a very popular gathering place for residents of both Carmichael and the surrounding neighborhoods. Dogs and their owners came from Fair Oaks, Foothill Farms, Arden Arcade, Citrus Heights, Orangevale and North Highlands. We continue to be a volunteer-driven, membership dues supporing organization-raising funds to maintain our waste cans, dispensers and doggy bags, benches/ chairs for comfortable seating plus special projects such as the reseeding of the grass, new fencing, grading, etc.

One of the bonuses of being a regular at K9-Corral is getting to know the family of dogs who come to play.
In July we lost Thor. His owner Pam shares this about him.

"Thor Quinn
Jan 2013-July 2022
He’d been a regular fixture at the Canine Corral since moving to the area in 2016. He quickly made friends with the “morning crew” and loved making the rounds for regular pets and compliments. He most of all loved leading the canine “choir” with his beautiful songs of welcome (and wake up) that could surely be heard at a very healthy radius. His human (Pam) misses him dearly and is very thankful to her Carmichael Park pack friends for always being so kind to them both."
REST IN PLAY BEAUTIFUL BOY.
