JD Horsetraining & Equine sports massage I specialize in training, starting / breaking youngsters and retraining of problem horses of all types, using Natural Horsemanship methods.

lp them and give advice on how to keep training. I explain things while I'm training their horses. I am harsh but very gentle with training. I will never hurt a horse and got a lot of patients. I can also give lessons in basic horse back riding. I love being around horses and it is my passion to train young and/or difficult horses. Update on my student.
She's been doing great with Ayanna and is starting to develop a bond with her.

I tied the stirrups forward so she can learn how to keep her feet under her to help with balance and not give mixed signals to the horse.
We are also learning how to use leg pressure.
We walk circles to push the horse off the pole and push towards the pole.
The figure 8 helps with hand placement and where to look.
We're still working on it but she has improved so much in just a few months.

This lesson was pretty interesting. My student had to change horses due to Dixie (the main horse she's been riding) is hurt so young 5 year old Ayanna got to take over the lesson for today.
Ayanna only had maybe 20 rides and handled a new riding with grace.

My student is learning pretty quick and is getting the hang of keeping her balance and looking where she is going.

My student is a young adult who has always wanted to learn how to ride a horse.
She's learning very fast and enjoys learning on Buddy.

My little rider did amazing last month. She's been building her confidence in going faster and becoming the best rider she can be. She has beat her own time several times in December. Now it's a new year and she says she going to try and go faster.

This young girl is a talented rider. She rode Dixie at my house to get to know Dixie and the next day rode Dixie in a race so she could keep her points for a series the race was having.
This was Dixie's first time racing with a rider other than me and my daughter.
Let me tell you she did awesome and won 3rd in the youth and 3rd in a novice class. Come 4H season I'll have her under my guidance on helping her use her talent to the full potential.

My little rider has gotten the courage after seeing her friends ride fast to start barrel racing too. This day she went her fastest time and did everything I told her to do. She warmed Dixie up all by herself and she stopped Dixie in the alleyway and waited for me to come give her a high five. Everything I taught her years ago has stuck with her and I couldn't be more proud of her.

I haven't posted in awhile due to personal reasons but I got this young horse a year ago and she's finally old enough to start slowly. I have saddled her prior and my daughter has ridden her once in saddle and 4 times ba****ck. This was her second time being saddled and first time having some weight on her. She did amazing without any funny business. I love starting the easy ones. With this particular horse I will be going very slow since she is on the smaller side.

My daughter is following my example. She's learning under my supervision and is excelling quite well. It also helps that Dixie is very calm and tolerates her.

I got this from a different trainer but I completely agree with this.

Things to ponder when selling prospects...

Just because your horse doesn’t excel in the arena, doesn’t make it a trail horse.

Just because your horse wants to be fast and forward, doesn’t make it a barrel horse.

Just because your horse pins it’s ears, doesn’t make it a cow horse.

Just because your horse will let you swing a rope on it, doesn’t make it a rope horse.

Just because your horse jumped the fence once, doesn’t make it a jumper.

Just because your horse is slow, doesn’t make it a pleasure horse.

There’s so much more that goes into each of these disciplines. Don’t be so daft as to assume that just because your horse possesses one single quality of that discipline, that it is a prospect for that discipline. Don’t undermine the decades of breeding, training, and education put into each of these real prospects, and assume that yours is of similar quality, just because of one characteristic. Educate yourselves, and your horses.

I haven't posted in a very long time because I have been grieving. My main lesson horse Dusty got sick with a brain tumor and I had to put him down in November of 2019. I acquired a new horse named Titus (looking almost exactly like Dusty) in March of 2020 and in August of 2020 he got injured and became toxic with the bacteria in his body and also had to be put down. We mastered balance on the barrel with our hands forward and relaxed and were learning how to steer properly without pulling to hard. We also had to learn how to keep the slack in the reins at a perfect level and how to keep our hands low and in front of us. I had to use my dummy for the steering part. Lol
