One year ago today, we pulled this little girl out from under a car on our street where she was curled up into a little ball, sleeping. We had been feeding her for a few weeks at that point. She was very, very sweet, and we believe she had a home once. 🐱

She made a home in my office for the first few months, and has since moved in upstairs with her sister, Penny, into the coolest cat room ever. All she ever wants is cuddles and belly rubs.

She celebrated today with new toys, treats, and lots of love ❤️

Everyone, please wish a happy 6th birthday and 1st adoptiversary to sweet Mia!!

🎉 HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY PENNY LANE!! 🎉

This is the story of a 7 week old, 1.4 lb kitty who fit in the palm of my hand, and has defied all medical explanation.

2 years ago, I pulled this little girl from OC Animal Services on her euthanasia weekend. They said she had CHF and pneumonia. I expected her to be a hospice foster.

I immediately took her to urgent care, where the awful (awful, awful, awful) vet made me cry and said I should euthanize her on the spot because I told her I wanted to get a 2nd opinion from what she said. I think that may be the only time I've ever asked for a 2nd opinion, especially in an emergency situation, but something felt very off about what she told me. So I left with my little palm-sized kitty thay was coughing and having trouble breathing.

Well, thank God I did. That 2nd opinion happened 3 days later with Dr. Sekhon, her primary vet (He's so good, we've followed him 4 places. If you need a vet - drive to him - from anywhere). Which led to Dr. Orvalho, her cardiologist at UC Davis.

Penny has VSD, and will for the rest of her life. Basically, she was born with a hole in her heart, and the blood flows the wrong direction. That's the short story. She's on 3 meds, 2x a day, with routine check-ups and echocardiograms twice a year. We don't know what her entire lifeline looks like, but I do know she's kicking ass and living her best life in the coolest cat room of all time, with a new sister.

A 2 week hospice turned into a lifeline of not likely longer than 6 months. At a year old, we started talking about heart surgery and banding. A couple months ago during her routine echo and check-up, Dr. Orvalho walked in saying, "This is insane." Turns out little Penny won't need surgery because her body basically performed it on itself in the last few months. She's already been able to cut back on one of her main heart meds.

This little girl is a medical marvel. She's defied all life and medical odds, as only an orange cat can.

The first photo is from today, followed by her freedom ride video on the day I met her, followed by 2 videos when she first met Dr. Sekhon (in comments).

Please wish Penny a happy 2nd birthday!! 🎈🎊🎂

🎉 36 animals helped in only 2 hours today!

It was a big Barket morning at ' Neil Good Day Center in Downtown!

💛 Days at the Day Center are always very difficult and emotional. I don't know the last time I got in my car to go home after this Barket location and didn't cry. Today brought someone lying about having a cat in order to pass out cat food for humans to eat, as well as having security remove the dad of the pups in the first photo for how he was treating the baby 💛

➡️ It's not easy, but what we do is needed. Those pups still need help, supplies, and all the love they can get from us in just a few short moments. We have zero tolerance for any type of aggression or abuse towards either us or an animal. We're not afraid to refuse services, ask to have them removed, or involve law enforcement. Help and doing the right thing doesn't just mean providing a bag of supplies.

In addition to helping 36 of the goodest boys and girls (and so many puppies today!), we handed out:

⭐️ 99 pounds of food
⭐️ 35 toys
⭐️ 26 bags of treats
⭐️ 24 bowls
⭐️ 10 cooling bandanas
⭐️ 8 leashes and harnesses
⭐️ 5 beds and blankets
⭐️ 3 sweaters

🫶 Thank you so much to for food, treats, and blankets; for a desperately needed donation that purchased food for today; for toys and beds; Cyndy and the Woman's Club of Lakeside for their amazing handmade beds; for all the donated reusable bags; and everyone else who supported and donated to make today's Barket pawssible! We appreciate you immensely! 🫶

🗓 This was Barket #4 in 2 weeks. On Sunday afternoon, we'll be rounding out the month at . If you need something help with pet food and supplies, come on out - we'll be there at 2 pm! ⌚️

And remember, the will provide you with food, toys, treats, litter, and beds. They will give you food literally every single day for your animal. If you need to get there, but are unable, please contact us. There is always a way to ensure that your best friend doesn't go without.
