Membership helps ensure a safe, fun experience. Check us out with a free trial! The Carlisle Area Dog Parks Association (CADPA) is a group of local citizens who have
created a dog park at Shaffer Park in Carlisle. CADPA’s mission is to maintain and
improve the park as a safe and secure place for dogs and their owners to socialize,
exercise and play. Over the last several decades, as an increasing

number of citizens have become dog
owners, most communities have adopted leash laws to protect both residents and dogs. But these laws have increasingly limited the space where owners may freely and legally
exercise their dogs off-leash. Research shows that both dog owners and their canine companions are happier and
healthier in communities that have safely fenced dog parks where dogs may freely run
and play. Dogs who get plenty of exercise and socialization with others, both canine and
human, bark less, sleep more, and make better neighbors. Finally, dog parks free up
other community parks, making them safer, cleaner and easier to maintain. All dogs served by CADPA are neutered, licensed and up to date on vaccinations. For
the many visitors to the Carlisle area who travel with their dogs, CADPA offers a
temporary, non-resident program. CADPA has raised funds needed to construct and maintain the dog park through
fundraisers, donations, membership fees and a grant. Those funds have been and
continue to be used to clear, mulch, plant, fence and electronically gate separate play
areas for large and small dogs

Ever wondered what your dog’s name looks like… from space?! 🐶 🌎

NASA has a free interactive called “Your Name in Landsat” where it spells out any name using real satellite images of Earth. Link in the comments!

Drop a screenshot of your dog’s name in the comments. We’d love to see them all!

🐾 What to Expect on Your First Day at the Park! 🐾

We want your first visit to be fun, safe, and comfortable for both you and your dog. Here’s what you can expect when you arrive:

🐶 A quick orientation:
One of our volunteer Membership Committee members will welcome you, help assess your dog’s temperament, and review important safety information and park rules. Don’t worry — our canine ambassador will also be there to help translate all of this into “dog language”!

🌿 Time to adjust:
Before jumping into the action, your dog will have time to explore, sniff around, and get comfortable in a lower-stimulation environment with our canine ambassador.

🐕 Joining the fun:
Once your dog is ready, you’re welcome to visit the main areas and we typically schedule outside of non-peak hours to start. Some dogs can feel overwhelmed when everyone wants to say hello, but our members are always nearby to help with introductions and step in when needed.

Safety is our top priority. Incidents are very rare and they most commonly happen around the entrance gate. That’s why we ask owners to take their time entering and help their dogs have a calm start.

Once settled in, your dog can sniff, run, play, and enjoy the park equipment — including Chuck-Its, pools, and our water stations!

A few reminders:
✅ Please leave personal balls and treats at home — our park equipment and setup are designed with safety in mind.
✅ No need to bring p**p bags — we have plenty available throughout the park.
✅ Stay attentive and engaged during your visit.
✅ If your dog makes a new friend, use our GroupMe app to coordinate future play times!

We have separate areas available separated by size, and GroupMe can help you plan visits when the right playmates are around.

For dogs who are especially energetic or anxious, a little exercise before arriving can help make their visit even more enjoyable.

We can’t wait to welcome you and your pup to the park! ❤️

🐾 How is a membership-only dog park different from a public dog park?

It’s a question we hear a lot!

While both offer a place for dogs to run and play, a membership-only park provides an extra layer of safety and enjoyment.

Here’s what makes our park different:

✅ UP TO DATE VACCINATIONS - all members are required to keep rabies and kennel cough records on file

✅ ACCOUNTABILITY - Every member has agreed to follow our park rules. If problems arise (which is very rare!), we know who is using the park and can address concerns appropriately.

✅ VOLUNTEER SUPPORTED - The park is maintained by volunteers and funded through membership dues, not taxpayer dollars. Your membership helps pay for operations expenses like mowing, water, repairs, balls and p**p bags, insurance, and ongoing improvements.

✅ COMMUNITY - Getting to know other members means that you get to know everyone’s dogs, and that means playtime is fun and low stress for everyone involved! Whether your dog is a ball chaser, a high energy wrestler, or prefers a quieter park experience, there’s a perfect time of day and group of doggy buddies for you.

Membership isn’t about keeping people out, it’s about working together to create the best possible environment for everyone who uses the park.
