Did you know that Idahound field dresses most of its beef?

Unlike traditional slaughter methods, where an animal is moved, held, and "knocked" at a different location, field dressing involves a mobile butcher who travels to where the animal is. We like field dressing because it's more humane - and the resulting beef has less residual stress hormones in it that can affect quality and shelf life.

By being farm-to-bowl, Idahound has been able to tailor the manufacturing process to consider not only the dogs who consume our products but the animals we source to make them, too. We're getting at the WHAT... and the HOW.

The sheep in the Wood River Valley are on the move - and their Collies and Great Pyrnees are close behind! Every October, the Trailing of the Sheep Festival celebrates the proud heritage of sheep ranching and herding in Idaho, including the working dogs that keep those lambs in line and the predators away. It's an incredible dynamic that can be glimpsed at the Sheep Dog Trials (the smartest dogs you'll ever see) or just wherever there's a flock (the biggest dogs you'll ever see).

Of course, we can't forget about the happy hounds who, like many of us, simply love eating lamb! Idahound's Raw Sheep and Vegetable Diet, Green Lamb Tripe, Lamb Crisps, Ewe Chews, Lamb Bites, and assorted Raw Meaty Lamb Bones are all locally-sourced, minimally-processed options for the sheep-loving pup in your life.

Idaho's hunting season for grouse opened a few weekends ago, meaning the pointers are living their upland dream! Ranging the hills and forests, especially for energetic hunting dogs, is extremely hard on a dog's body, and optimal nutrition is crucial.

Idahound was born from founder Chris Cey's desire to see his pack thrive all fall. By feeding them a raw diet (and single-ingredient treats!), Chris knows they're getting fresher, more digestible foods with elevated levels of protein and fat - and none of the filler. As a result, his dogs are healthier, stronger, and better at recovering after a long day in the field.

FREEDOM! Like our pups - and this great nation - Idahound has a strong independent spirit. Whether it's butchering locally sourced meats or packing finished orders, we do nearly everything ourselves. At the same time, we're so grateful for the community of ranchers, growers, retailers, and customers who help make Idahound who we are.

This important duality of self-reliance and cooperation, whether it's in business or politics, is on our minds this 4th of July. May you have a wonderful holiday weekend, reveling in both independence and unity! 🌍

Also PSA: fireworks can be very traumatic for dogs. Be considerate and look out for the anxious hounds in your neighborhood.

Made by at the **pitecture factory in Jerome, these new panels couldn't be cooler 😉. Having grown our business alongside H**pitecture over the last decade, it's amazing to have their products become an essential part of our sustainability journey.

H**p's eco-friendliness aside, the insulating power of these panels is superior to anything else we used, keeping those frozen meatballs and raw meaty bones as cold as ever before arrival.
