According to Colorado State University, based on 2025 forecasts and recent data, Colorado is experiencing a rise in both tick-borne diseases and heartworm, with risks extending into, and, even during winter months due to warmer, fluctuating weather. While traditional tick season runs from April through October, ticks can become active at 40°F (4.4°C), making them a year-round threat. As an Animal Hospital in the Roaring Fork Valley, we utilize these statistics to recommend a higher standard of care for your pet, which is year-round heartworm and tick prevention medication.
