According to Colorado State University, based on 2025 forecasts and recent data, Colorado is experiencing a rise in both tick-borne diseases and heartworm, with risks extending into, and, even during winter months due to warmer, fluctuating weather. While traditional tick season runs from April through October, ticks can become active at 40°F (4.4°C), making them a year-round threat. As an Animal Hospital in the Roaring Fork Valley, we utilize these statistics to recommend a higher standard of care for your pet, which is year-round heartworm and tick prevention medication.

Hitting the trails while you wait for winter? We've seen quite a few broken nails and paw lacerations lately. If you're worried about a minor injury sustained out on the trail, you can always shoot us a well-taken photo of the area to help you determine if a vet visit is necessary or we may simply provide you with at-home care instructions to promote a quick recovery.
