This week, we’re celebrating the incredible team of veterinary technicians and technician assistants who are the heart of Islandside Animal Hospital. 💙

Please join us in recognizing James, Bethany, Hailey, Katie, Hunter, Amy, Zoey, Morgan E., and Kail for their hard work, compassion, and dedication. Whether it’s providing top-notch care to our patients, comforting pet parents, or supporting our doctors behind the scenes, they do it all — and they do it with unmatched heart and skill.

To show our appreciation, we’ll be treating them to catered lunches, gifts, and a little extra well-deserved PTO as a thank-you for everything they do day in and day out.

Thank you, team, for being the driving force behind the care we provide. We truly couldn’t do it without you! 🐾💐

🐾 Exciting News from Islandside! 🐾

We know the past few months have brought longer-than-usual wait times for appointments, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time. We’re thrilled to share some great news that will help us better serve you and your pets!

First, we’re very happy to announce that Dr. Apking will be returning from medical leave on Monday, October 20th. We’ve missed her greatly and are so glad to have her back caring for our wonderful patients.

And the good news keeps coming — Dr. Diane Bean will be joining our veterinary team full-time starting Monday, October 27th! 🎉

Dr. Bean brings over 20 years of veterinary experience and a deep passion for the human–animal bond built on love, compassion, and commitment. Before becoming a veterinarian, she worked as a marine biologist in the Florida Everglades, where she discovered her true calling in veterinary medicine. For the past two decades, she has had the privilege of caring for pets and their families right here in Southwest Florida.

In addition to her love for dogs and cats, Dr. Bean enjoys “taking a walk on the wild side” by volunteering her time at CROW (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) on Sanibel.

At home, Dr. Bean and her partner, Jim, share their lives with a lively crew of rescues: Zaya and Zing (Amazing Dobermans), Leelou (Wiggle Butt Bully Mix), Alpha and Cosmo (Cockatiels), Floyd (Blue and Gold Macaw), Vladimir (Russian tortoise), and Stretch (Red-eared slider/yellow belly turtle hybrid).

When she’s not caring for animals, you’ll find her gardening, baking, reading, hiking, birding, shelling (any excuse to be outdoors!), or watching hockey — a nod to her northern roots.

PET FOOD ALERT: Following up on a case of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in a cat, testing performed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, state and local public health and agriculture partners, and federal partners suggests a link between the strain of H5N1 virus detected in the cat and in certain lots of RAWR Raw Cat Food Chicken Eats, a product the cat consumed before falling ill.

We had not one but two A/Cs die on us over the weekend (thankfully our 3rd AC in boarding is holding down the fort for the boarders in their area of the hospital). We apologize for the heat today and possibly tomorrow while we have our company come out to fix both of them. Thank you for your understanding!
