Nothing says I'm serious about rodeo quite like a 'pool' party and awards ceremony. These girls worked so hard this summer it was time to have a little fun.

Crow's Nest Big 5 team.

Meet Paislee and Piglet. I'm sure you have seen these two out and about, Pig wears my brand so I'm kind of partial to the little red mare. Paislee has been turning her into quite the goat horse over the last couple of years and really making waves in the goat tying world.

I can't take credit for that training but I am over the moon proud of her everytime she steps off that horse and runs down the rope.

Paislee's goal for next year:
To push herself, practice harder, and keep improving every day. She wants to make state her fresshman year of high school rodeo. No matter what happens, she plans to stay humble, cheer for others, and always love and take care of her horse.

Day 9 Crow's Nest Big 5 team shout out.

Meet K and Robyn. K came in with the least amount of experience in the group and grew leaps and bounds over the summer. With her trusty seasoned pony Robyn she was able to build her confidence and focus on what needed to be done during her runs. We had a few down barrels/poles that lead to the realization that we do infact need 'big juicy circles' but over all K put in her best effort and came out of the season a better rider.

I am so proud of K for taking each run in stride and striving to do better for her and Robyn.

K's goal for next year: More pocket to be able to maintain her speed, not letting her frustration affect how she rides, and my personal favorite-- paying attention.

Day 8 Crow's Nest Big 5 team shout out.

Meet Kamri and Stevie. Kamri and Stevie became partners only a few months before Big 5 started. Stevie probably hadn't seen a barrel in several years and we were working with a restart and a new team. Kamri had to put her desire to win behind her desire to be smooth and after a few bumps in the road we found our stride. This year was a learning curve for the pair in finding a rhythm with each other and an understanding that fast will come but if you don't have the collection and teamwork then you just fight every step.

I am so proud of Kamri for keeping her head up and working through the problems as they presented themselves.

Kamri's goal for next year: Make solid runs.

Day 7 Crow's Nest Big 5 team shout out.

Meet Carder and Chevy. If you're in barrel racer land you probably know these two. Cards has put in immeasurable hours with Chevy, working everyday with the mind set to just be 1% better than yesterday. She had a large mountain to climb on this mare and to say she met her peak during this summer Big 5 run is an understatement.

So proud of you Cards for all the hard work you put in to better yourself and your horse.

Carder's goal for next year: To rise above the pressure and not let it affect how she rides.

Day 6 of Crow's Nest Big 5 team shout out.

Meet Sara and Woodstock.

Sara had the challenge of riding former barrel horse in classes that were out of b9th of their comfort zones: Ranch riding, ranch pleasure, and reining. Some days were better than most and the pair pulled out a few wins. Woody started the season launching in looking for a barrel only to realize there was none. Sara handled his brief can chasing flashbacks with easy and guided him through each set like an old pro. We had conversations about bits and body/hand position and by the end of the season she had a full understanding that sometimes less is more.

I am so proud of Sara and Woody for showing that even in a place out of the familiar you can use what you know and put together a solid patter. Woody really enjoyed this environment and started walking flat footed in for his patterns.

Sara's goal for next year: To make the speed team.

Day 5 Crow's Nest Big 5 team shout out.

Meet Ashlynn and Theo.

Ashlynn was handed her own version of a challenge in the form of Theo the WY pony. 2 years ago he was feral. Last year her was chasing cows across Mountain ranges. And this year he walked into his very first indoor arena. Theo wasn't always cooperative forcing Ashlynn to dig deep to find her confidence in pushing forward and putting one pattern behind her to go and work another one.

Ashlynn won amd placed n the walk trot classes consistently on the pony and even when it wasn't going her way kept working to complete everything else as perfect as she could make it. We spent some time talking about how your mental mindset outside the arena can reflect what happens inside.

I am so proud of the hard work you put in with this fancy guy and your growth as a young rider.

Ashlynn's goal for next year: To not let her defeats reflect in her attitude.

Day 4 Big 5 Crow's Nest Team shout out.

We are getting into the Rookies now.

Meet Mia and Kitty.

Mia came into her first year with a smile on her face and left the same way. She rode a horse that by industry standards should have been in speed. They worked together as a team to put together some pretty great patterns for the Stockhorse division. There were days when Kitty forgot she wasn't a rope horse anymore and missed picking up the right lead or wiggled during showmanship but Mia kept that signature smile and did what she could to complete the remainder of the pattern correctly.

Mia learned that it takes time and patience to achieve your goals and sometimes only 1 spur. I am so proud of all the hard work she put in and her ability to listen and take direction to grow herself as a horseman(woman).

Mia's goal for next year: Come home with a blue ribbon. She also wants to try Switch in Stockhorse but we may have to discuss that one further.

Day 3 Crow's Nest Big 5 team shout out.

Meet Mandy and Robyn/Hilda. Hilda the cute little bay brought home some pretty impressive places after the first show and Mandy was ready to carry that same momentum through the season but an injury cause Hilda to have to sit out the remainder of the summer landing Mandy on Robyn.

Mandy handle the change with determination and competeted on the older mare like a season rider raising her standards with each run to bring home standing we never expected from the hippo. It was a hard road and required a lot of stirrup and number swapping since Robyn was already working with another student. Mandy kept a cool head and left the rushed rider change at the alley each time.

I am so proud of Mandy for holding her head high and riding to the best of her ability during a situation she had not prepared for.

Mandy's goal for next year: Trust her instincts and don't overthink it.

Day 2. Crow's Nest Team shout out.

Meet Kailee and Hoorah. Kailee got handed one of the biggest challenges in the group. Show the 4 year old in a discipline that he was unfamiliar with. Stockhorse was the right kind of challenge for the pair. They saw highs and lows and tackled each one to the best of their ability.

Kailee knew going into it that he was just a baby and babies have bad days. She handled every misstep with the same grace and poise as her wins.

So proud of you Kailee for being a guiding had to your young mount.

Kailee's goal next year: To go in with confidence and ride the arena like its hers.

First up in our Crow's Nest student shout out is Khloe. We had a horse change after the first show, followed by her back up fracturing her leg, and that led her to riding Dan for the remainder of the season.

Khloe always kept an upbeat attitude to any problem the horse world threw at her and showed what ever horse she was handed with a smile on her face. I am so proud of her for pushing through the ups and down of the horse industry. She brought home a high point win in Sr. Western and progressed with every show.

Her goal moving forward is to become more assertive in her riding.

So proud of you Khloe for the mountains you climbed this year.
