Rest easy, Lunatic Fringe 🖤
Lunatic Fringe
2002 — 2025
One day in 2002, Burch's good mare Wipeout laid down in the sweet, Wyoming grass and got up with an exceptionally flashy c**t at her side.
Today, 23 years later, the great stallion Lunatic Fringe laid down in that same good grass never to rise again.
The only accolade to escape the Burch family's Big Horse was winning PRCA's Horse of the Year. Obviously, that was a mistake on the part of the association.
Lunatic Fringe won WNFR rounds, short rounds from border to border - coast to coast. He produced world champions, haunted every bronc rider's dreams, contributed to their championships and war chests and helped buy their babies diapers.
For the Burch's, he became the horse of their dreams. He was always a friend — always respected. Luni was always honest and well understood the game that was his career. His presence was breathtaking. He was regal, dignified and had a coy sense of humor evident to those who knew him best.
"If I needed to load him, I could leave the rig wherever he was turned out at and come back hours later to him patiently standing on the trailer." — Matt Burch
"Last New Year's Eve, we brought him to Gillette for a cameo appearance at our Buck & Ball. After his lukewarm interest at his hall of fame induction a few years back at Deadwood, I had a long talk with him about things like majesty, brio, internal fire and not embarrassing his family. He stepped out under the spotlights and sizzled. His fans roared." — Anna Burch
We'll watch his babies and fall in love with a bunch of them before we join him on the warm, grassy ranges of our Creator's horse country. Until then, we'll never forget the unforgettable Lunatic Fringe.
