Originally established in 1998, CLASS as the acronym is known, is a non profit 501c3, no kill, companion animal shelter, serving Canyon Lake and Comal County, Texas. The ultimate goal of the shelter is to ensure each animal placed in the care of CLASS, is cared for

with DIGNITY, PROFESSIONALISM, COMPASSION and HUMILITY. Our current hours of operation are:

Meet Dexter, aka Big Dex, the master of taking it easy!

Dexter is a big sweetheart who has absolutely no interest in living life in the fast lane! At around 2 years old and 80 pounds, this handsome guy is possibly a Golden Retriever and Anatolian Shepherd mix. Whatever his mix, one thing is certain, Dexter is incredibly sweet and wonderfully laid back.

Forget the hustle, because Dexter has discovered the finer things in life. Leisurely strolls, plenty of affection, snacks and absolutely no unnecessary rushing.

His mornings are when he really gets things going. Dexter greets his people with happy hops, little boops to your hands for pets and the occasional playful jump or two. Once he has gotten his morning excitement out of his system, he is ready to settle into the good life.

And Dexter takes “leisurely” very seriously. He is phenomenal on a leash and has exactly one speed: slow. He likes to take his time, enjoy the scenery and never worry about getting anywhere in a hurry. Even treats are approached with the same relaxed attitude. Sometimes he is simply too comfortable to get up for one and would prefer that you bring it to him.

Somewhere along the way, Dexter earned the nickname “Roll-A-Dex,” and honestly, it fits. This guy has expensive taste. He likes his walks slow, his days peaceful, his people close and his treats delivered with minimal effort on his part. Big Dex has figured out that life is pretty sweet when you take your time and enjoy it.

He also seems to be potty trained and is an incredibly easygoing companion. He is perfectly happy hanging out with his people, soaking up some love and enjoying a quiet day.

Dexter seems to have had limited exposure to other dogs. He does get excited when he sees one and may act like he wants to play. Once he actually meets them, though, he can become uncomfortable and prefers to do his own thing. Because of that, he may be happiest as the only dog in the home for now.

If you are looking for a big, gentle sweetheart who would rather stroll than sprint and lounge than hustle, Dexter may be your guy! 🐾🐾💜

Update: Teddy and Felix have been adopted!

😻 Five adorable kittens, five unique personalities, and five little hearts still waiting to be chosen. Julia, Lady Marmalade, Teddy, Felix, and Meowy McMeow Face are all still looking for their forever homes! 😻

These 14 week old kittens have spent the last three months growing up in a loving foster home, where they have blossomed into happy, confident, and affectionate kittens. They are litter box trained, wonderfully social with people, enjoy being held and handled, and are full of the playful curiosity that makes kittenhood so much fun!

Julia is a beautiful little tortie with an adventurous spirit. She is usually the one starting the fun and loves turning just about everything into a toy. Feather wands, shoelaces, pompom balls, and even fingers under a blanket are all fair game. Julia also loves being up high, especially using your shoulder as a perch! When she is not pouncing around playing, she proudly carries her favorite toys through the house in her mouth.

Lady Marmalade is another gorgeous tortie with a slightly gentler personality. She can be a little shy at first, but once she settles in she is incredibly sweet and offers soothing purrs. She loves belly rubs, enjoys giving little finger licks and nibbles, and makes the cutest squeaky sounds. Like her sister, she loves just about any toy she can find!

Teddy is on a mission to become the biggest, fluffiest cat around. His favorite part of the day is mealtime! After filling his belly, he finds a lap to settle into for a nice long nap. His unbelievably soft fur makes him irresistible, and you will want to give him extra cuddles. Teddy was born with one defective eye, but it does not slow him down one bit. He still loves to play, explore, and keep up with his siblings.

Felix is a handsome fluffy kitten with gray fur sprinkled throughout his black coat. He has a wonderfully sweet personality that matches his good looks. While he enjoys chasing toys and wrestling with his siblings, he is just as happy sitting back and watching all the action unfold.

Meowy McMeow Face is convinced he is destined to become a mighty panther. He loves climbing, pouncing, and wrestling with his siblings. He also enjoys perching on your shoulder so he can keep an eye on his jungle below. Meowy is a playful and active kitten, but when playtime is over, his softer side comes out as he happily curls up beside you for a cozy nap.

Meet Lucky, the big lovebug with a gentle soul!

Lucky is a 5 year old White German Shepherd who weighs 88 pounds. He has had his share of twists and turns, but somehow, luck always finds its way back to him.

Sadly, his beloved owner passed away, but a kindhearted friend welcomed him into her home so he would have a safe place to land. Eventually, Lucky found himself spending his days outside. Although he enjoyed his spacious backyard and loved soaking up the sunshine, his caretaker knew he deserved to be part of a family again. So, she reached out to us to help Lucky find his happily ever after.

When Lucky arrived in our care, his coat was badly matted and required a full shave down. We think he looks pretty handsome sporting his summer cut, but we know he’ll be absolutely gorgeous when his fluffy white coat grows back!

Lucky is an incredibly sweet boy who loves people of all ages, including kids! He greets everyone with kisses and gentle head nudges to ask for pets. He is amazing on a leash, making walks easy and enjoyable. Sometimes he’ll walk with his head gently resting against your leg, which is as sweet as it gets! That easygoing nature extends to his four legged friends, too. Lucky enjoys the company of calmer dogs and will happily play for a little while before settling down to relax. There’s simply so much to love about this big guy!

After all the twists and turns he’s been through, we hope the next chapter of his story finally brings him home to his happily ever after! 🐾🐾💜

Meet Carl, the pup with a love worth earning!

Carl is a 7 month old Lab mix with a gentle heart and so much love waiting to shine. He came from a hoarding situation, so he missed out on many of the positive experiences that help puppies learn the world is a safe place. Because of that, new people can be intimidating at first, and Carl will be unsure when you first meet him. But there’s a whole lot more to this sweet boy than his timid first impression.

Once Carl realizes he’s safe, you get to see the real him. His tail starts wagging, he breaks into the cutest happy little hops, and he soaks up every bit of affection you have to give. He absolutely loves being around people he trusts, and when Carl decides you’re his person, he gives you his whole heart. That special bond is what makes getting to know Carl so incredibly rewarding.

And when Carl is comfortable, his playful side comes out too! He enjoys playing with squeaky toys, playing a very gentle game of wrestle with people, and even plops over for belly rubs. He loves spending time with other dogs, especially when they’re up for a little wrestling or splashing around in the kiddie pool. He’s playful without being pushy and does a great job respecting dogs who would rather relax. He’s also wonderful on a leash, happily strolling along at an easy pace!

When playtime winds down, Carl is happy to curl up on the couch and enjoy some quiet time with his favorite people. After everything he’s been through, there’s something especially sweet about watching him relax and soak up affection.

Carl is looking for someone who can see past his timid first impression and recognize the incredible dog underneath. With someone willing to give him the chance to build confidence at his own pace, Carl has so much potential to blossom into the happy, loving companion he’s meant to be.

Meet Asher, smiles, wiggles, and howls included!

Asher is a 1 year 6 month old Shepherd/Rottweiler mix who weighs 60 pounds. This handsome boy is equal parts adventure buddy and couch companion. He has a goofy personality, a playful spirit, and a happy go lucky outlook on life that’s guaranteed to keep a smile on your face. He’s also quite the talker! Whether he’s greeting you with his adorable howls or telling you all about his day, Asher never fails to make people laugh.

One of Asher’s favorite things is getting out to explore. Whether it’s a long walk through the neighborhood, a new hiking trail, or simply stopping to sniff all the interesting sights and smells, he’s always excited for his next adventure. He starts every outing with enthusiasm, then settles into an easy walking pace and does wonderfully on a leash. After a day of exploring, he’s always ready for a little more fun, whether that’s a gentle wrestling match, some playful zoomies, or playing with a toy before happily curling up for a nap.

Asher already knows how to sit and lay down, and he’s eager to keep learning. While we’re not completely sure if he’s fully potty trained, he does his very best to keep his kennel clean and should pick up a household routine quickly.

He enjoys playing with other dogs and loves a good game of chase or a wrestling match, but he isn’t the type who constantly needs a canine friend to entertain him. He’s happy to play when it’s time for fun and equally happy to relax once he’s gotten his energy out.

When meeting new people, Asher can be a little unsure around some men. He does best when they’re patient, gentle, and allow him to come to them at his own pace. Once he realizes he’s safe, his sweet and playful personality shines. Before long, you’ll be greeted with the cutest whole body wiggles, happy little tippy taps, and a grin that’s impossible not to smile back at.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will make you laugh, happily tag along on your adventures, and then curl up beside you at the end of the day, Asher is ready to become your very best friend. 🐾🐾💜

😻 Meet the purrfect little kitten crew! 😻

Last week we introduced you to sweet Mama cat Zoe. Today it’s time to meet the five adorable kittens she raised so beautifully: Julia, Lady Marmalade, Teddy, Felix, and Meowy McMeow Face!

😻 Meet Alice and Nancy! 😻

Alice the brown tabby and Nancy the beautiful black kitten are 16 weeks old sisters who are ready to find families of their own. While they would certainly love to stay together, they are not required to be adopted as a pair. They would each do just fine in separate homes.

These sweet girls are everything you could want in a kitten. They are affectionate, litter box trained, love people, and have done wonderfully with kids. They also enjoy the company of other cats and are always happy to wrestle, cuddle, or explore with their feline friends.

When it is time to play, just grab a wand toy and watch them come to life! They love all kinds of toys, but chasing a feather wand is definitely their favorite. After they have burned off some energy, they are more than happy to curl up for love and attention with their people.

Alice is the calmer of the two sisters. She has a gentle, easygoing personality and enjoys taking life at a slightly more relaxed pace. Nancy is a little more playful and curious, but she is just as affectionate and loves spending time with her people.
