“A cat has absolute emotional honesty,” Ernest Hemingway once said.
While humans, out of necessity or fear, often hide what they feel,
a cat does not.
It knows no falsehood, no pretense.
What you see is what there is:
serenity, disdain, affection, or distance.
It is a free soul,
loyal only to its truth.
Perhaps that’s why cats belong to no one—
and yet, they say everything… without words.
In that phrase, Hemingway isn’t just describing the feline;
he’s revealing something about us.
Cats do not fake, do not please, do not betray themselves.
Their mere presence is a mirror of authenticity:
they invite us to remember what it feels like
to live without masks.
