This is an amazing compliment to well behaved mares everywhere, especially this one.
There are moments in this life with horses where you’re reminded just how much the mare matters. And yesterday morning was one of them.
Kee didn’t just bring a filly into the world — she showed exactly why we are so incredibly grateful for well-mannered, well-handled mares.
In the middle of a high-stress foaling, when everything could have gone sideways, she stayed steady. She took the time she needed to rest, and she trusted us completely to step in and help her baby. There was no panic, no fear, no fighting us — just quiet understanding.
When it came time to step in even more — to do the squeeze and help restrain her foal so she could receive her medications — Kee checked in, stood over us, and simply… allowed it. We didn’t have to halter her. We didn’t have to tie her. No one had to hold her. She didn’t need sedation. She just stood there, watching, patient, trusting, waiting for us to give her baby back.
That kind of mare is worth her weight in gold.
In moments like that, temperament and handling aren’t just “nice to have” — they are everything. Mares like Kee remove an entire layer of stress from already intense situations. They allow us, and our vets, to focus fully on what matters most: the health and safety of the foal.
It’s something we never take for granted. Because not every mare reacts that way — and when you have one who does, you feel it in your bones how special they are.
Kee, you are everything we hope for in a broodmare. And your quiet strength made all the difference when it mattered most. 🤍
