Pharaoh is one happy golden retriever! He presented to VEC with decreased appetite and vomiting. He had a history of eating things he shouldn’t, and we started with x-rays on presentation. There was some concern for foreign material within the gastric intestinal tract. Dr. Lavoie recommended Pharaoh stay overnight with IV fluids and medications to have recheck imaging. Pharaoh’s x-ray the following morning showed improvement, and there was no longer concern for gastrointestinal obstruction. Pharaoh started a food trial and was discharged to his family. We hope he stays out of trouble!

Shay came to us after she ingested a large amount of Ibuprofen liquid gels. Shay’s owner called Poison Control to determine the toxicity level and develop a treatment plan. On presentation we ran bloodwork and found that her kidney and liver values were elevated. She was hospitalized with us for a few days receiving IV fluids and stomach protectants. Shay is the sweetest girl and is now doing great at home. Her recheck bloodwork this week showed that her kidney and liver values have normalized!

If animals ingest NSAIDs they can develop stomach ulcers, liver damage, and kidney failure. If your animal has been found to have ingested a NSAID please call a veterinary hospital and get them seen as soon as possible.
