Dear Valued Clients,

ACIC is excited to announce the limited re-opening of our hospital to select appointments effective 3/14/22. In order to ensure the safety of our clients and staff, we have developed the protocols below. Please reach out to our office if you have any questions regarding our policies.

Upon arrival, please continue to call our office to check in from the parking lot for contactless check-in. A member of the reception team will request your call back number and check you in for your appointment.

A technician will contact you via phone to review your pet's history. Once completed, they will instruct you to meet at the front lobby door.

For curbside appointments, the technician will retrieve your pet and the doctor will contact you via phone once the exam is complete.
If your pet qualifies for an in-hospital appointment, face masks will be required within the building regardless of vaccine status. No exceptions. IF YOU ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF ILLNESS, WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE ELECT A CURBSIDE APPOINTMENT.

Be advised that only TWO adult owners will be allowed to be present for an in-hospital appointment. All other family members must remain in the vehicle for the duration of the appointment.
After greeting you and your pet, the technician will es**rt you directly to an examination room

Due to the size of exam rooms, and in order to follow recommended social distancing guidelines, your pet will be taken to the treatment area for examination while you remain in the exam room. Upon completion of the exam, a staff member will return with your pet to the exam room and the doctor will come in to discuss findings and recommendations.

We ask that you remain in the exam room for the duration of your appointment. At this time, our lobby is not open for seating.

Upon completion of your appointment, a reception team member will assist you scheduling any follow up appointments and collect payment at the front desk where the Plexiglas barrier is present. You will then be directed to exit the building through our lobby exit door.

The Doctors and Staff appreciate your continued support and patience as we navigate this new stage of recovery. Thank you for choosing ACIC for your pet's cancer care.

"Koda" is a senior Cockapoo (and the dog nephew of one of our LVT's, Mary) who came to ACIC with a tricky problem. For many months he had a large, pedunculated tumor on his left ear pinna. This mass continued to increase in size and became a problem at home due to its location and frequent bleeding episodes. Dog ears are very vascular and tend to bleed quite a bit, even if there's a small scratch, so you can imagine how this was causing repeated problems at home! Koda had a history of previous benign ear tumors that were removed from both ears, so his primary care veterinarian suspected this was the same type. They were unwilling to surgically remove the tumor due to the risk of bleeding and Koda's severe heart murmur. The medical oncology team saw Koda's case as a unique challenge and created a unique anesthetic plan for Koda that would allow his tumor to be removed safely. We anesthetized Koda using only the safest anesthetic drugs and placed him on our anesthetic ventilator to support him during the brief procedure. Dr. Dec was able to easily remove this gnarly tumor and minimal bleeding was experienced. Koda was an amazing patient and thoroughly enjoyed his recovery in a comfy bed with plenty of pain relief medication on board. He is now living his best life as a senior dog!

This is Minion. Diagnosed with multicentric lymphoma in October 2020 when his owner noticed an enlarged lymph node in his neck. Minion was on the University of Wisconsin protocol in November 2020 and went into remission right away. He tolerated chemotherapy really well. He has been in remission from the beginning and for 8 months now since last treatment. Minion continues to be the love of his mommy's life, terrorize his kitty sister and lives to eat.

This is "Daphne, Jr." Nellis - a beautiful 16 year old domestic shorthair that has been coming to us since July of 2014!!! She was diagnosed at that time with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. She received oral Leukeran chemotherapy through February of 2015 and had over 3 years of treatment-free remission. She again went through several months of Leukeran which finished in March of 2019. She has since been off of all treatment enjoying a happy, cancer-free life. We see her once every 6 months for monitoring. Also pictured here is Mary O'Connor, LVT who as you can see loves Daphne!!

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia tends to manifest as a chronic, manageable disease requiring only intermittent treatment. The prognosis is usually very good, but Daphne has far outlived expectations and will continue to do so!!
