If you are starting a new tank and plan to have plants, one of the best things you can do for them is using an aqua soil bottom. While plants can survive in gravel or sand, aquasoils come out of the bag packed with the nutrients they need to thrive. Aquasoils also can help moderate tank conditions. For example the brand we carry is designed to soften water and lower ph to the range where our fancy Caridina shrimp thrive, as well as many of our tropical Amazonian fish species. If you prefer the look of sand or gravel, you can also cover aquasoils in a decorative layer of the substrate of your choice!
