🐾 Queen Be Health Update for Our Puppy Families 🐾
We wanted to share a quick health update directly with our puppy families. We brought Benny to the vet after he hadn’t been feeling well, and based on his bloodwork, our veterinarian is currently evaluating him for Addison’s disease.
Addison’s is a hormonal condition that affects how the body regulates energy, stress, and electrolytes. Symptoms can be subtle and come and go, which is why it can sometimes take time to identify. The good news is that Addison’s is very treatable, and dogs who are properly managed usually live normal, happy lives.
We also want to reassure everyone: Addison’s is not always hereditary. While Westies may have a slightly higher risk, many dogs diagnosed have no family history at all, and it often affects only one dog in a litter. It is not contagious, and having a sibling with Addison’s does not mean another dog will develop it.
We are sharing this information simply for awareness, not alarm. If you ever notice unexplained changes in your dog’s energy, appetite, or digestion, it’s reasonable to mention Addison’s to your veterinarian, but there is no need for routine testing in healthy dogs.
We appreciate the trust you place in us and are always happy to answer questions privately. 💛🐾
