🌲🐕 Your dog may be your hiking buddy, but you need to be their emergency plan. 🐕🌲

When we head outdoors, we prepare ourselves with water, snacks, first aid supplies, and the right gear. Our pets deserve the same preparation.

Before your next adventure, pack a pet emergency kit:

🎒 Don't hit the trail without:
💧 Plenty of water for your dog
🍗 Food or high-value treats
🩹 Bandages, gauze, and wound care supplies
🐾 Paw protection for rough terrain
🦟 Tick removal tools
📱 A charged phone and trail information
🦮 Extra leash/collar
🐶 A rescue sling or carrier option in case your dog cannot walk out

Even the strongest dogs can get injured. A torn paw pad, broken nail, snake bite, heat exhaustion, or an unexpected fall can happen miles from the car.

A 70-pound dog that suddenly can't walk is not something most people can simply carry back to safety. Having a plan before you need it matters.

Before your next hike, ask yourself:
"How would I get my dog home if they couldn't walk?"

If you don't have an answer yet, it may be time to add emergency supplies to your adventure gear.

Stay safe. Stay prepared. Keep exploring together. 🐾🌿

🐴💉 **Keeping Your Horse Protected Through Vaccination** 💉🐴

Vaccines are an important part of maintaining your horse’s health and preventing serious disease. Whether your horse is a backyard companion or travels for events, their vaccine needs may vary based on lifestyle and risk factors.

Common equine vaccines help protect against diseases such as:
🐴 Tetanus
🐴 West Nile Virus
🐴 Eastern & Western Equine Encephalitis
🐴 Equine Influenza
🐴 Rhinopneumonitis (EHV)

Regular wellness care helps keep your horse ready for whatever adventures come their way!

🐱💉 **FVRCP: A Core Vaccine for Cats** 💉🐱

The FVRCP vaccine helps protect cats against three important diseases:

🐾 **Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (Herpesvirus)**
🐾 **Calicivirus**
🐾 **Panleukopenia**

These diseases can spread easily, and some can cause serious illness, especially in kittens and unvaccinated cats.

Keeping your cat’s vaccines current is an important part of lifelong preventive care.

Not sure if your cat is due? Give us a call and we can help! 🐾

🐶🐱✨ **Big diagnostic tools, small-town convenience!**

When your pet needs answers, having the right information matters. That’s why we’re excited to have an ultrasound specialist travel to our Canon City clinic to perform ultrasound services for our patients.

From routine evaluations to more complex medical concerns, ultrasound gives our veterinary team a closer look at what’s happening inside your pet’s body and helps guide the best care decisions.

No extra trip. No unfamiliar facility. Just specialized care from a team you already know and trust. 🩺💚

We’re always looking for ways to bring more services and resources to our patients and their families!

🌧️🐾 **Leptospirosis: A Disease You May Not See Coming** 🐾🌧️

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can affect dogs and can also be spread to people. Dogs may be exposed through contact with contaminated water, soil, or urine from infected wildlife.

Pets who spend time outdoors, hike, swim, hunt, or explore areas with wildlife may have a higher risk of exposure.

Vaccination is an important tool in helping protect your pet from this potentially serious disease.

Ask us if the Leptospirosis vaccine is right for your pet’s lifestyle! 🐶

🌡️ Heat Stroke First Aid: What Every Dog Owner Should Know

If your dog is panting excessively, drooling, seems weak, collapses, or becomes unresponsive after being in the heat, act immediately.

✔️ Step 1: Get them out of the heat.
Move them indoors or into the shade.

✔️ Step 2: Cool them correctly.
Use cool (not ice-cold) water over their body and use a fan if available. The combination of water and airflow is one of the most effective ways to lower body temperature.

✔️ Step 3: Call your veterinarian.
Let them know you're on your way so they can prepare for your arrival.

✔️ Step 4: Keep cooling during transport.
Continue using cool water and airflow if you can safely do so.

❤️ Remember: A dog may look better after cooling, but internal damage can still be occurring. Every dog with suspected heat stroke should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

Knowing what to do before an emergency happens could save your best friend's life.

🐾❤️ One of the hardest parts of loving a pet is having to say goodbye.

The bond we share with our animals is unique. They become part of our daily routines, our families, and our hearts. When they're gone, it's okay to grieve that loss deeply.

There is no "right" way to mourn a pet, and there is no deadline for healing. Whether your loss was recent or years ago, your memories and your love still matter.

If you're navigating pet loss, know that support is available. Pet loss support groups, grief counselors, books, and online communities can provide comfort and remind you that you're not alone.

If you've lost a pet, we'd love to honor them with you. Share a favorite photo or memory in the comments. Sometimes remembering them together is one of the best ways to celebrate the joy they brought into our lives. 🌈💙
