Sometimes, creating something special and meaningful for someone is as simple as showing up. But if you can show up with a mini horse, even better! 🐴💛

Talin and Cyprus visited our booth at AVL Stonewall Fest recently. When they saw the postcards for Forever Seen, our elderly visitation program, they asked whether we could arrange a home visit for their 92-year-old relative, Mercedes.

Mercedes spent more than half her life as a nun. Now wheelchair-bound, she hasn’t left home in over a year. Imagine her delight when our mini horse Annie appeared on her front lawn for a surprise visit!

Talin texted us afterward: “She had such a great time—she hasn’t stopped talking about it! And I’ve been so impressed that she’s held on to Annie’s name. She hasn’t learned all the cats’ names, and she’s been here for over two years now!”

These moments are why Forever Seen matters. We’re eager to bring the program into more nursing homes and care facilities. If you know someone who could help us reach a wider audience—or a facility that would welcome a visit—please get in touch.

Marc and Annie went on an outing today, to visit a wheelchair-bound lady in her nineties who hasn’t been away from her home in over a year. We’ll let you know tomorrow, what happened when they met—stay tuned!

Look out for more "Missed Path in the Media" in the coming days! We just dropped in on Melanie Wilkinson at Asheville's Mix 96.5 to tell her about the sanctuary and our work.

Melanie hosts "The Melanie Show" on Mix 96.5 (WOXL-FM) in Asheville, North Carolina on weekdays from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, where she features fun daily topics and community interaction. Our sanctuary volunteer, Jim, is a regular listener and put us in touch for Melanie's "Asheville Area Focus".

Our interview will go out on Sunday morning and will then be heard on seven different stations in the Asheville Media Group lineup—and once it's online next week we'll make sure to post the link here so you can take a listen, wherever you are.

Introducing Sunset Horse Yoga with Live Singing Crystal Bowls🗻🐴

Partnering with the Missed Path Sanctuary, we invite you to slow down and spend a beautiful summer evening surrounded by nature, music, and rescued horses.


Class takes place on a scenic overlook above the sanctuary, allowing the horses to remain undisturbed while you enjoy the peaceful views. Afterward, you'll have the opportunity to meet the rescued horses, hear their inspiring stories, and, weather permitting, gather around a cozy fire beneath the stars.

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday for our July "Open Horse". We had a great afternoon introducing the horses to some new friends and talking about our work here at the sanctuary—and sharing some time over snacks and blueberry cake!

Looking for a different kind of Saturday afternoon?

On Saturday 18th we’re opening the gates at Missed Path Sanctuary for another "Open Horse"—a chance to slow down, meet the herd, and simply spend a little time in the company of horses.

There’s nothing organised and nothing expected of you. Wander the property, ask questions, chat with Marc and Mike, spend a quiet few minutes with a horse, or find a shady spot and just enjoy being here.

One of the lovely things about these afternoons is that everyone experiences them a little differently. Some people end up deep in conversation, some connect with a particular horse, and some simply enjoy the peace that settles over the sanctuary.

We’ll have refreshments, a few snacks, and plenty of time. Stay for half an hour or spend the afternoon with us.

If you’ve been meaning to visit the sanctuary, or you’re simply looking for a calm, welcoming place to spend part of your weekend, we’d love to see you.

No timetable. No pressure. Just horses, nature, and good company.

Today, in Weird Things from the Farm… a shell-less chicken egg! 🥚

I’d never seen one until today. This can sometimes happen if a hen has an issue with the shell-making gland, or—as in our case, probably—when a hen gets near the end of her laying cycle.

The membrane is surprisingly durable, and if I were to cut it open, it would most likely have a perfectly normal yolk.
