Lost and Found Pets – Town of Burns N.Y. (serving Canaseraga, Garwoods and Swain)
This page has been set up to help reunite area families with their lost and found pets. If you have or know of a lost or found pet, please post a photo with helpful info and we will help share in hopes of a quick return. While this page has been set up for the Burns NY area, please feel free to post from other communities as well, pets (especially dogs) can travel quite far, so this site will allow posts to help our neighbors as well.
This page is not limited to dogs, please feel free to share all lost and found animals.
BEST PRACTICES
1) If you don’t have a photo handy, post a good description – DO NOT DELAY – the sooner word gets out about your missing pet the better. Come back and “Edit” to add your photo when you can.
2) When posting to the site, please include a photo and make sure the privacy options are set to “Public” so that others can share it.
3) Please include key information such as:
a. City & street where the pet was lost or found.
b. Day the pet went missing or the day you found it.
c. Pet's name (if known)
d. Breed and color
e. Age
f. Size
g. S*x of pet and if it's spayed or neutered
h. Was it wearing a collar? With tags? Microchipped? Describe collar.
i. Temperament: Is it friendly? Skittish? A runner? Approachable? Food motivated?
j. Any additional info noteworthy? Unusual markings? Does it need meds?
k. Your contact info
l. Do you want to offer a reward?
4) Please write a short paragraph with your lost or found ad. It's suggested that you describe how you lost or found the pet
5) Found pets can also be taken to some veterinary offices or animal shelters to be scanned for a microchip if they have a reader. We will verify which vets in the local area have scanners and post a list once compiled.
6) Let us know if the pet you posted has been reunited, we love to hear about those and need it to keep hope alive for others.
7) Share the page, spread the word…..the more people that join the group and share will increase the success rate of the reunions.
RULES
1) No selling of pets
2) Rehoming posts only upon Admin approval, private message for details.
3) Require proof of ownership (pics, known undisclosed markings/scars, check for microchip, and owner's vet can confirm ownership.) No proof, no one can make you hand animal over.
4) No graphic photos of deceased pets, provide best description, photo can be privately messaged to anyone asking for it.
5) No GoFundMe, funding raising posts without Admin approval.
6) No for sale animals – admins reserve the right to remove or block.
