Hello everyone!👋 😊

You may be wondering why The Salty Dog page is now Corals R Us, so I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, my fiance, and share a little background with all of you.

My name is Nick Shannon, and my fiancé is Makayla Knights.

I first walked into The Salty Dog when I was about 12 years old (13 years ago) to set up my very first 55-gallon saltwater aquarium. I was greeted by Adam and Kyle—and I quickly became that annoying 12-year-old asking way too many questions 😂 (They can confirm this.) Call after call, text after text… somehow they managed to get me completely hooked on reef keeping at a young age. The rest is history.

I’ve now been in the hobby for nearly 13 years.

About four years ago, I started selling coral for a close friend of mine in Mississippi strictly through Facebook. That experience taught me a lot, alongside everything I learned from Adam and Kyle. Eventually, my friend Jake and I decided to sell coral on our own pages, and that’s when I officially began running Corals R Us on my own.

As we continue to grow and sell coral locally here in Farmington, I am actively keeping an eye out for a future retail location so we can have a true local reef shop once again.

At the moment, our main platform for showcasing corals is our Facebook group Corals R Us. Moving forward, this page (formerly The Salty Dog) will be used for live sales, auctions, raffles, and updates as well.

We also place fish orders from time to time to help our local customers. While we don’t currently have a physical location to view fish in person, we do have the connections to source fish, dry goods, frozen foods, and more upon request.

Roughly 80% of the coral we grow and sell is shipped, so shipping is absolutely an option. That said, our ultimate goal is to continue building a strong local reefing community.

Adam offered me this page as a way to help the saltwater hobby in the Finger Lakes be more connected. I’m incredibly grateful for that opportunity.

I truly hope I can help fulfill the needs of everyone who followed The Salty Dog and continue the legacy in a new way.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all. I’ll include a photo of Makayla and myself below, and we’re excited to share some photos of torches we recently moved into the frag tank and will have available for sale!

Thank you all for the support—we’re excited for what’s ahead! 🐠🌊

Found all the Yellow Tangs, they are smartly hiding in the nature preserve on the southern tip of Maui.

A rugged walk over 250 yards of jagged rock from the most recent lava flow on Maui from about 400 years ago; leads to a slightly daunting water entry that is the gateway to what is probably the best snorkeling reef in the Hawaiian chain. Closed for much of the last 20 years, there is now a parking lot and guided path at 'Ahihi-Kina'u that is stationed by knowledgeable Park Rangers. The water entry point is marked by a sign (final photo)

Went farther south, actually spotted some Yellow Tangs and of course my favorite, the Achilles.
