Well Dolly, we hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are actually lots of treats and pet food made with euthanized pets.

It's horrifying, but unfortunately true. In the industry, the term 4D meats refer to dead, diseased, dying or disabled animals used in food and treats. These animals are not humanely slaughtered for pet food manufacturering, they are roadkill, diseased farm animals, dead zoo animals and yes, even euthanized pets. This is the dirty side of pet food manufacturering the industry doesn't want you to see.

Avoiding these disturbing ingredients is easy! Flip the bag or box over and read the ingredients. If you see any unidentified proteins, typically listed as "animal or meat" that's a clear indication the manufacturer is using 4D meat. If we don't know the source animal, we cannot feed the product.

So unfortunately Dolly, as disturbing and horrifying as it may be to know some products on the market do contain euthanized pets, at least when we do know what to look for, we can do better and avoid products containing 4D meat.

🎉 Adoption Update! 🎉

Girlie — now known as Whinnie — has officially found her forever home! ❤️

Whinnie came to us in a unique way… she “came with the kennel” when we purchased HHH Canine Lodge & Ranch and had lived here for most of her young life. Originally found as a stray who had already had puppies at just 1 year old, this sweet girl never truly had a place to call her own — until now. 🐾

Fast forward to today, and Whinnie is living her best life in a loving home with two new sisters-a Border Collie named Kimber and a Labrador named Sera-and a wonderful owner. She’s settled in seamlessly, showing off her best behavior and soaking up the love she always deserved. 💕

Thank you, Amy and your family for opening your heart and home to this amazing girl. You’ve given her the life she’s been waiting for. 🥹

🚨 CRATE TRAINING MATTERS 🚨

Meet Remi — before his 4-week Board & Train with us, crate time was a disaster. He would panic, bark frantically, and destroy the house every time his family left. It was stressful for everyone, especially Remi.

Fast forward to today… and this guy now calmly snoozes in his crate like a pro. 💤

This is exactly why we stress the importance of crate training — it creates structure, security, and peace of mind for both dogs and their humans.

Let’s Talk About Diet: Why Dogs Shouldn’t Be Fed Vegetarian Kibble

We recently had a dog come in for boarding with a bag of “vegetarian” plant-based kibble—and we were both concerned and confused. Here’s why:

At HHH, we care deeply about the whole dog—mind, body, and behavior. Diet plays a huge role in that. And the truth is, dogs are not designed to thrive on a vegetarian or plant-based diet.

Dogs are facultative carnivores, meaning their bodies are built primarily to digest and absorb nutrients from animal protein and fat. While they can technically survive on a plant-based diet with heavy supplementation, this is not what their system is built for. Over time, these diets can lead to:
• Nutritional deficiencies
• Poor coat and skin health
• Digestive issues
• Low energy
• Increased risk of serious conditions like DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy)

Feeding choices based on human ethics or trends—no matter how well-meaning—don’t always translate to what’s best for your dog. At HHH, we advocate for species-appropriate nutrition that supports a dog’s biology, behavior, and overall health.
