Why do we vaccinate for Rabies?

Rabies vaccinations are not required by law in the state of Illinois, so why do we recommend all horses be vaccinated?

Horses live outside. Even if they live in a barn, bats, skunks, and other animals that can carry Rabies can make their way into a barn. There is no cure for Rabies, if your horse contracts it, they will have to be euthanized and sent for rabies testing.

Rabies is spread by saliva. Vaccinating not only protects the horse but also the people that handle them, including their owners, children, and veterinarians. We must look in your horse's mouth for various reasons, putting us at risk.

Rabies is a deadly disease that is easily passed to other horses and humans. Vaccinating protects everyone.

Meet Lizzie. She is the newest member of the Heinze family. We hope that Lizzie will help fill the hole in our hearts, left by Curt's sudden passing. This is Lizzie's first day in the office. She isn't wandering too far from dad.
