Stop playing the victim.

If you constantly find yourself wondering why the world is against you, feeling like you're singled out, attacked, unappreciated, unwanted or undervalued-take a minute to self-evaluate. There's a good chance that the problem is coming from within.

It is typically about perception. It's easy to take people wrong and get offended by what people say, or don't say...But often times we are just living in a victim mentality.

Stop placing your value in what other people think about you, say about you, or don't say about you. Staying in that place will hold you back. It will keep you from reaching new heights and achieving new goals.

You are not a victim.

You are a child of God, living in a fallen world full of other hurting people that need to see your light shine bright! Grab ahold and take them with you! We have places to go, and they aren't to the same crappy places we have already been.

It’s easy to blame our horse when things aren’t going our way.

The reality is that you are either asking them to do what they are doing or you trained them to do it.

It may not be a conscious choice or on purpose, but still the same result.

If you ride a horse with a lot of feel and you are tense and a leg lays heavy they may cheat to the first barrel.

If you sit too early they may crash a barrel because you prepared for the turn way too soon.

Be honest with yourself and make sure you are doing your job before laying blame on your horse.

You may have also trained your horse to work that way.

The more awareness you have of your self and your actions the easier issues will be to recognize and correct.

Don’t train your horse to look cool in the warm up pen—train him to run barrels!

Yes, correct precise maneuvers are important tools your horse needs to be able to accomplish, especially in early training, but those maneuvers are a means to an end (winning barrel races), not the final purpose.

Just because your horse can slide to a stop doesn’t mean he should—he’s not a reining horse.

Just because he can lope an uber collected circle doesn’t mean he should, he’s not a dressage horse.

Just because your horse can execute a perfect rollback doesn’t mean he should, he’s not a cutting horse.

I’ve seen it a million times in the warm up pen.....someone spinning their horse in the warm up pen, because he can, and someone might notice and compliment the action, only to run over all 3 barrels in his run.

Use the tools you NEED to set your horse up for success in the arena, not to look pretty the warm-up pen.
