🙏🚨🆘️🐾🧡 We feel, we are constantly sharing about those arriving, and those who need immediate help/care. But what about those who have previously arrived, then completed stray holds, been evaluated, dog tested, paired - get walked regularly by all staff/volunteers of all ages, they are GREAT dogs. All now even completed vetted by the staff and amazing Vets at Kershaw County Humane Society. They are STILL waiting for their own homes. A chance they well derserve and have more than EARNED.
For some it’s been weeks, months and sadly others are coming up to a year or just over. 💔😪 This is not sustainable, not with all that KEEP arriving. The animals deserve better than living in a kennel with minimal.
Some of these animals come in just days/weeks old and are now MONTHS old. So these babies are spending important social development "times" in confinement. Then there are fully grown adults, waiting to grow old. With no future of happiness guaranteed, some seniors, who had lives before. Some good, some bad. Now spending the remainder of their Golden years, in an overcrowded shelter.
Yet still more arrive. People are STILL back yard breeding. For NO reason.
Some of these babies with exceeded length of stays are at risk. For many reasons but it's not a life, living in an overcrowded and overwhelmed shelter, that restricts you from being able to freely move, is not a permanent solution nor a LIFE for these animals. Simple. It’s not. 😞 Shelters should be temporary solutions to get animals safe, healthy and in to loving homes. In a timely manner that ensure all can be taken care of and all needs met.
The Staff at Kershaw County are asking, ALL our friends, anyone who can help, even if it's just one. To please assist with SAVING some of the longer residents, the bigger older, friendly with all, fully vetted great dogs, safely OUT - 🆘️🚨🚨
All animals under their care can be seen on the shelter website kchumanesociety.org
*ALL are located under the Adopt tab- including those on Mandatory 5-7 day stray hold. Website IS in intake order. Longest residents at the top- newest at the bottom.
Please this post. That alone can save a life and help another.
- they are struggling and need supplies. They are a 501c3 and rely on donations/support to give these animals what they need and more- Any help, truly does help. Deductible-
- you are always welcome, during public opening hours. Even if it’s to help organize an area, clean/dishes/some laundry, walk/bathe some dogs. Or just love on some kitties! Take animals out for day trips or fun activities, like a pup cup or shopping! It’s is all welcomed, needed and appreciated.
- they are ALWAYS in need of fosters for many reasons. Even if it’s just a sleep over to give an animal a break. See them in a home, or just to give yourself company. You can always do fostering for puppies *vaccine period" this is a huge help and only a two week commitment. You would just foster any young babies and keep them safely inside, until they receive 2 vaccines. Creatingsome immune protections/antibodies -against very serious sickness that can be contracted at young ages from environment or other animals.
There is also the choice to foster for those who have rescue offers, to travel north and need a couple of weeks out of the shelter environment before transporting, to minimize the risks of transferring any sicknesses, but to also give the rescue and new adopters some insight on what they are like in a home environment before transport. (This can be anything from a week or 4- just depends on age of animals, vetting status, and the rescues set transport dates)
Or you can simple foster with no reason, saving a life by fostering one(or two) until a home is found..which then of course opens a space for another to be saved at the shelter!
- you are the saviors of all. Without people adopting..NONE of this would be possible..NONE. not the shelters, not rescues.
