Update: They went home! They weren't dumped and they have people. You can't blame anyone living out here for thinking they were dumped - no collars, hanging around for weeks, we see it all the time but not this time. 😊 Thank you all for the shares and help and for show8ing about them with us.
If you're a normal person you look at at unfamiliar number coming in on your phone and think maybe somebody's trying to sell you something. If you're involved in rescue, especially if you're in Ray Co., you know exactly what that call is. The urge to ignore it is overwhelming, but they all say the same thing - Nobody else will help.
I can't make this a "Ray Co pi**es me off" post. I need to find a spot for these dogs. But this isn't right. It's not just Ray Co. I know. It's everywhere. But here in Ray Co we ALL pay taxes on an animal shelter that's of absolutely no use to us. That shelter we all pay for only takes dogs from the city of Richmond and that's only if you can get ahold of them, which you can't, and only if they have room, which they won't. And if you do manage to get a dog in there wish it luck as you're leaving it there because that baby finding it's way out of the shelter is another challenge. The HS goes above and beyond but they're always full. I love Ray Co. I've met some of the best people I'll ever know living here, but the animal control situation in these rural communities is bu****it. Anyway, sorry, that's a rant for another day.
These dogs were dumped in Richmond, MO. They're staying just outside of the city at this time. This is a rural property with chickens and 7 other dogs so taking on these two is not an option. Obviously they're caring for them right now but they can't stay. They have been told there's no help available and they should just put them down. Fun fact - even if you are willing to do that, and pay for it, most vets won't kill a health dog because it's homeless. Especially if it's not even your dog. That means to "put it down" you get to shoot it yourself so that's lovely. Perfectly legal, more so if they're an immediate threat to your livestock or family, but these dogs aren't either. Look how sweet they are! Would you shoot them?
This family is leaving town in a week. They've made arrangements for their pets and property. They don't have a plan for these two and it's not their responsibility to do so. Will they starve? Will the coyotes get them? What's the weather look like?
These dogs have obviously been family members at one time. They want to be inside. They want to belong. Those little grunts from this guy as he's getting loves from his finder are breaking my heart.
Dear village, we have a week. Please share. Tag your friends and favorite rescues. These sweet dogs deserve a chance. The finder will make a donation if a rescue can make room and SNIP will help with neuters so minimal cost to get them ready. Transport to anyplace within reason is available. Let's save these two. Both boys. They look fairly young. On the smaller side, under 50 pounds? Handsome kids aren't they?
Here are some more posts about them so you can work directly with the finder if you want or you can comment or call me.
Pretty please and thank you.
