Reliable K9 Training

Reliable K9 Training Common sense dog training that gives owners the tools needed to succeed with their dogs.

After seeing so many dogs surrendered to shelters because of bad behavior, my goal is keep dogs in their home. My training covers anything from obedience training, to the more severe issues such as fear, separation anxiety, and aggression. You and your dog will learn practical training skills that can be used anywhere.

Years later, this client still sends me updates sometimes. I trained two of the dogs in this video, Shakespeare on the rear left, five years ago. It's all about consistency once your dog is home. They don't forget what they've learned but will pick and choose what they do if they know it will be allowed.

Amber getting her visit in with Simba. Even if the dogs who come for training don't live with cats, exposure to them is beneficial. Even though my cats live with dogs and are pretty dog savvy, how much close exposure certain dogs passing through have to my cats, depends on how safe they are. Simba's only issue with the cats was learning that they don't appreciate his exuberance towards them, even in play.

After his session with his owners, this morning, Bubba and I took a quick trip to Petsmart. Previously, he would stress 💩 in public especially if people tried petting him. Advocating for Bubba in public has taken a lot of pressure off of him, which means no stress 💩. One thing I want to point out is how important it is to not let people pet your nervous dog, even if they insist. Unwanted petting from people is one of the top causes for dogs to become reactive or even aggressive. Advocate for your dog!

Stationary exercises can help dogs with impulse control and overcoming fearfulness. Bubba decided tonight was the night to be afraid of the Roomba, which makes for a good opportunity to practice "Bed".

Your dog doesn’t care about your profession. They’re not concerned with the fact that you’re a high level executive. It doesn’t matter to them if you’re a janitor at the local school. What matters to them is what they’re allowed to get away with, with you, in the relationship dynamic that you have with them.

Do you have rules? Are there consequences for breaking these rules? Are you easy to push over? Do you allow lots of little problem behaviors to slide? These are the things that really matter to your dog and influence how they behave around you.

I’ve worked with all kinds of people from all kinds of walks of life and seen a huge mix in the dynamics with their dogs. Therapists can have really messy unhealthy neurotic relationships with their dogs. People at the highest levels in management can struggle to get their dog to stop pulling or even biting them. People who work in the fast food industry or don’t work at all may have the most well behaved dogs.

It’s not what you do for a living, it’s what you do or don’t do in the DAILY LIVING with your dog!
