I thought today that I’d share a few facts about chickens that apparently aren’t common knowledge as farmers often assume….

The eggs in the carton at Walmart come out of chickens’ butts. They’re not made in a factory. Chickens p**p out of the same hole they pass eggs through.

Chicken eggs come in a wide variety of colors, not just white and brown.

Roosters are male chickens. Roosters crow a lot. Not just at dawn. Day and night.

Hens are female chickens. Hens don’t usually crow, but they can and sometimes they do (usually if there’s not a rooster to do the job).

Chickens can crow after death.

Roosters don’t lay eggs.

Hens can have combs on their heads too.

Many chickens can fly and sometimes they like to sleep in trees.

Chickens don’t p*e.

Chickens’ eggs are fertilized before they’re laid, a hen’s ovaries release a up to about a dozen eggs at a time although she usually only lays one at a time.

Chickens sometimes lay soft eggs with a thin membrane instead of a shell.
