Common Myth among the horse world
That every thoroughbred is crazy, unable to calm down and trained.
The hard fact is that too many people do not have the capabilities to capture the ability of a thoroughbred.
Your horse isn’t untrainable, you just need to take a step back and learn more about the horse type to learn how to train.
You see lots of posts of people making the excuse of their horse’s bad behavior for being a thoroughbred. They leap through the air “oh he’s a thoroughbred”, spooks at a bag “oh she’s a thoroughbred”. People constantly make excuses for the behavior for breed.
It is the same thing with a chestnut mare, or a stallion’s bad behavior. It’s because someone has not addressed this bad behavior and told them no. They are like children, you do have to scold them. If someone steals something from Lowe’s and you laugh it off and they learn they can do it again, they most likely will. Same with a horse. If a horse realizes that you will excuse that bad behavior for a breed thing, when most likely it is a training thing, or lack of work, or you’re flat out feeding something that is too high caliber for whatever light work in return.
Thoroughbreds are one of, if not most honest horse you could ride. They let you know before they throw their head between their legs, that well, they are fresh.
They have the work drive of an athlete, so put that drive to work. You have a horse that was bred to be worked, so put that drive to work.
I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in a household where my father trained and broke racehorses the right way, where he focused on the job at hand, and the potential jobs that would happen after. I had a mother who had ridden in the English world all of her life. So I had the position where I learned how to respect the breed and harness it.
So if you’re going to excuse that bad behavior for the horse being a thoroughbred, you should probably look into a different type of horse. Because this breed will give you its absolute all if you respect it and harness their will.
