Saving lives by transporting adoptable animals from high-risk area shelters and placing them in loving foster homes or with partner rescue organizations that share our values. We fund no-cost spay/neuter programs in upper Napa Valley and in Lake County to decrease the number of unwanted animals born in our area. WCAL also provides one-time emergency financial assistance to animals in life-threaten

ing situations whose owners are facing sudden hardship. Assisting with all things animal related in the Upper Napa Valley and surrounding areas.

It's official!!! 🥳🎊🎉 Telly has found her furever home! We didn’t want to jinx it so we gave her a little time before sharing the amazing news. Telly has spent the past two weeks getting settled and we’re hearing nothing but good things. She's exploring, mapping out all the best napping/hiding spots, seeking attention and head rubs. Telly is also making biscuits, getting zoomies and playing with toys! We are over the moon about this match for Telly and so excited for her to have a human to cuddle at night. Next up, Telly has a dog and a house bunny to befriend! Here are a few of our fave Telly pics from her last month in a WCAL foster home. Congratulations Telly! We love you and we knew your happily ever after would find you 😘😘😘

Something BIG is happening this weekend. Volunteers are busy in Kelseyville helping another 200 cats and dogs at the 3-day Pet Fix - Lake County spay/neuter clinic sponsored by WCAL! Families have lined up in their cars to drop off their best friends and after today, they won’t need to worry about an oops litter. Or life threatening pyometra infection. Or maybe they want to sign up to foster animals for the local shelter so they’re getting their home ready. It could be that they have an escape artist who tends to roam and they read that neutered dogs tend to stay closer to home. Less noisy cat fights and injuries? Yes, please. There are SO MANY wonderful reasons that people are clamoring for help with affordable, accessible spay/neuter. We are here for all of it! Wine Country Animal Lovers is doing our best to fund as many surgeries as possible because we know how important today is for those 200 animals and their humans. Thank you to everyone who donated to the cause. It all adds up. We tallied everyone’s contributions and by working together to fund clinics like this, big things are happening 🧡

We are eternally grateful to Clearlake Animal Association for bringing these huge clinics powered by the pros at Animal Balance to Lake County. If you want to volunteer in person at a future spay day, SPCA of Lake County is your contact for boots on the ground and they host single day clinics in Kelseyville throughout the year 🙌

Oh no 🙀 Panleukopenia is no joke. In a shelter environment, panleuk can be deadly. If you're able to shelter a litter of found kittens instead of taking them to the shelter, the shelter staff in Napa will do their best to support you. Working together like this and communicating openly is the best way to ensure that as many young and sensitive babies survive this outbreak 🧡

We need your help to contain a recent spike in a highly contagious disease affecting kittens in our shelter population: feline panleukopenia (also known as feline distemper or feline parvovirus).

The good news is, we understand this disease well and know what steps need to be taken in order to stop the spread. We ask the public to avoid bringing kittens under 6 months of age to the shelter for the next two weeks. We are implementing this short term pause to help protect vulnerable kittens already in our care and reduce the risk of further disease spread within the shelter and the community.

How you can help: If you have found kittens under 6 months of age, please consider caring for them temporarily until it is safe for us to resume intake. We are available to provide you with guidance and support in caring for found kittens. Please contact us at 707-253-4382 and we will help walk you through next steps.

Symptoms of feline panleukopenia may include lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and sudden decline, especially in kittens. While there is no specific cure for feline panleukopenia, supportive care such as fluids, nutritional support, and strict isolation from other cats can significantly improve outcomes.

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent panleukopenia. The FVRCP vaccine is considered a core vaccine for cats and kittens and provides strong protection against this disease. You can learn more about the disease on the American Veterinary Medical Association’s website www.avma.org

We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we work to keep all animals safe and healthy. We will provide updates as soon as possible.

Toby is searching for his ideal home! This fluffy good boy is a total love. He's goofy in the most endearing way and so deeply affectionate — the kind of dog who very clearly “wants to be where the people are.” He's always orbiting the action and hoping to be included. Toby does well with the cats in his current home and he enjoys playing with other dogs. He’s not quite two years old yet, which means Toby has peak puppy energy. In a dream world, he’d have a large fenced space to run and sniff and zoom to his heart’s content. He gets to hike a few mornings a week and Toby loves to explore. He is also incredibly strong so Toby needs an equally strong and steady human when he spots the inevitable squirrel. At night he wants to be up on the couch, right next to his people, before getting tucked into his crate where he sleeps peacefully (with a cover on the crate to keep it cozy). Toby is very food motivated and does well with his learned skills like Touch, Off/On, Place, Wait and Find It. His recall off-leash is still a work in progress.
Toby can be protective of especially high-value treats like marrow bones and has snapped while keeping them from the humans, so his ideal home has adults who understand resource guarding. He has not displayed resource guarding behaviors around his regular food, only around marrow bones. Toby also hasn't been territorial around other animals, just people he thinks might take his prized chews. Toby is big and exuberant (and can get a little mouthy when excited) so he’d probably do best in a home without little kids. He loves interacting with the cats and thinks it’s hysterical to try to play with them. Toby would be over the moon in a home with another dog or in a home where he gets regular play dates or walks with other dogs.
Toby is neutered and healthy. His current family loves Toby dearly, but they have young children and managing their interactions is stressful. They know that their family isn't a perfect match and are hoping to find Toby a place where he can thrive. Please contact Elyse in St Helena to set up a meet and greet with Toby, 707-363-1149. Thank you for sharing!
