The sights and sounds and fragrances of the countryside are extraordinary after a summer rain. Wildflowers and morning glories profusely spread along the fence rows - and the bittersweet has orange berries popping out of little hills. It is a tranquil time, a time to catch the scent of petunias heavy on the evening air. It is something that will be repeated over and over for as long as we can remember. Early morning brings the sweet call of the quail and the cries of a killdeer doing wheelies over the meadows. Speak these things and remember them, because it centers the soul like nothing else on earth. ~ The bird in its flight stops in one place to make its nest, and in another to rest its flight. ~

A certain careful handling of business takes over when something makes us feel limited. Whether it is time or money or people, we know they must be utilized in the right spirit. As the Indian says, "Everything is in a circle." Whatever we set in motion comes back, and often shocks us by how quick and with what impact. Such things teach us to stop and think - to consider the use of a word or an act - and even a dollar. When we have material needs, a single dollar given where the need is great can multiply and come back to us a hundredfold. Even treating someone kindly is an investment, and though it may seem insignificant, when we are weary and sore, we learn how important it is. ~ You have noticed that everything an Indian does is in a circle. ~

"I think there was a big mistake made (when) people separated religion and the government. That was one of the big mistakes that was made, because when they did that, then they removed the Creator from their life - or at least from half to three-quarters of their life." --Tom Porter, MOHAWKโ€“ The Elders tell us that every thing the Creator made is interconnected. Nothing can be separated. The Elders say we should pray before we do anything. We should ask the Creator, what do You want us to do? We are put on the Earth to do the will of God. If we run our governments, communities, families or ourselves without the spiritual we are doomed to failure. My Creator, guide my life to include the spiritual in everything I do.

Victor Hugo said that certain thoughts are like prayers, and at times, regardless of the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees. This happens frequently when we need courage. And courage, like muscle, works best when a demand is made on it. Unless we demand, we may never know what we can do. That demand may be so effective that we never go back to a time without courage. And out of gratitude, our soul will still be on its knees. ~ I took to the warpath as a warrior not as a chief. I had not been wronged but some of my people had been....and I fought with my tribe. ~

Few children still have the chance to be innocent. They have been made to look like miniature adults, taught to act adult, and abused because of it. We sympathize with abused children and say that is the way the world is, what can we do? It is an easy loophole that lets us go on our way - wishing things were different but doing nothing to make it so. This is why we have so many throwaway children. We have cut loose from our responsibility to pray. Where did we go wrong? We made children competitive and gave them nothing for inner strength. We curled their hair and twisted their minds. They are going to learn it somewhere - so why not from us? Sadly, we haven't given them what they need because we don't have it ourselves. ~ Can it be that you and your children will hear that eternal song without a stricken heart? ~

"One of the first things Seneca children learned was that they might create their own world, their own environment, by visualizing actions and desires in prayer. The Senecas believed that everything that made life important came from within. Prayer assisted in developing a guideline toward discipline and self control." --Twylah Nitcsh, SENECAโ€“ All permanent and lasting change starts first on the inside and works its way out. Having constant prayer and Creator directed visions helps us to live in harmony. This is the best way to grow strong and become a Warrior. No matter what is going on outside of ourselves, it is our projection that makes it so. It is our projections that even give it any meaning. Another way is each day to turn our life and our will over to the care of the Great Spirit. Then He will show us His desire for us. When we are in alignment to His desire, we become very joyful and very happy. Oh Great Spirit, You take care of me today and tell me what I can do for You today. Give me the discipline to talk to You whenever I am in doubt or fear. Let me come to You if I get irritated. You are my solution.

"With prayer and good intentions, we make our lives sacred and so come to balance." --Don Jose Matsua, HUICHOL SIERRA MADRE MEXICOโ€“ Only through prayer can we make spiritual changes that are permanent. You have told us that all life is sacred. Today I intend to serve you, my Creator. Allow me to overcome temptation, and if one comes along, let me see the lessons that will give balance. You have told us that all life is sacred. Let me see today with a sacred eye. Let me see beauty in all things. My Creator, let me know what You would have me be today. Let my intentions be honest, respectful, humble and loving.
