Our DIY puppy training equipment is complete! Everything turned out so well.

Dog walk, round and square wobble boards and a yellow teeter board. We should have some confident puppies (and even adults) with this!

Not pictured, but we also made a fleece tie-on chute for the other end of the tunnel back there. This so they're not fearful of entering a space with unknown exit and something pulling over their heads.

New training equipment, Yay! We made this collapsible dog walk. FUN!

Puppy Incubator

We finished our Puppy Incubator this week! We are so pleased with the results and savings. Companies list identical devices for $600-$800 so we enjoyed great savings.

A puppy incubator is useful to help puppies get off to a good start in the first few hours of their lives and can be the difference between life and death, when it comes to puppies in distress.

We're happy to share our results with a video of how it's put together. In the description of this video you'll find instructions in how to build your own as well as links to the products we used.

What you don’t see in the video is how to make the unit. We began by mounting two screws for the control unit to hang/mount to on the right side. We then d...

Stack Training - 12mo.

Tessa turned 1yr old this month. We'd experienced issues with her moving or fidgeting when the judge goes over her. She also lowers her tail frequently in the ring and moves her feet during a stack.

Today we were working on those things only and she did much better!

The Horrible Hundred

Each year the Humane Society posts a list of the top 100 worst breeders. Dozens of pet stores across the country, including at least 21 Petland-linked stores, have purchased puppies from some of the dealers in this 2021 report.

Please remember this while shopping for that Christmas puppy! If you really want to see what is going on take a look at this report, but be ready for what you'll find. It is truly disgusting what is reported about these breeders.

Purebred is NOT THE SAME as well bred!

Why Not Seven Weeks — -The Forty-Ninth Day Revisited - Gun Dog

The article below is an article reprinted with permission from Gun Dog Magazine entitled “Why Not Seven Weeks? The Forty-Ninth Day Revisited” written by Dr. Ed Bailey.

This is a very interesting read regarding when the proper age to take a puppy home is and the reasons behind this.

The neonatal time period of development for a puppy leaves an imprint on them for life and will absolutely affect what type of adult dog temperament you end up with.

Should you get your puppy at 6 weeks? 8 weeks? 10 weeks? Read this for great insight on the reasons behind why waiting longer is often best.

Water - Fixing the Most Neglected Nutrient in Your Dog's Diet

This was shared by a friend recently and it's worth reading. Our dogs drink bottled water or filtered from the refrigerator, but what about their water bowls? They are on a raw food diet, so water and food bowls are washed with soap and hot water daily.

Even if yours are not eating raw, you want to make sure the water you're providing is fresh and clean. Even stainless steel bowls will grow a film if not cleaned regularly.

Learn why water may be the most overlooked cause of diarrhea and soft stools in dogs... and what you can do to fix it.

With doorbells ringing, doors opening and little ghouls knocking, it may be best to crate your furry friends!

A safe, quiet den not only gives them comfort, but you can relax knowing they're indoors and happy.

And remember chocolate is toxic to our 4 legged pals. If you should need, the Pet Poison Hotline is 855-764-7661 or the ASPCA Hotline 888-426-4435. Be safe for the holiday!

As the holidays quickly approach us, there will be many seeking a new puppy or kitten for their homes/children. The decision to add a pet to your family is a serious 10-15 year commitment and should not be taken lightly.

The top 10 reasons pets end up in shelters are:

1. Strays - Spay or neuter your pets! ID them and be a responsible guardian.

2. Moving - Will you need to move in the next 10 years? You need to move to where pets are allowed. Pay deposits, think about space etc.

3. Having a baby - Even if you aren't now. Would it stop you from keeping a pet? Is it a possibility in the next 10 years?

4. Don't have time for - Traveling or social desire conflicts? Don't have time to brush or groom?

5. Puppy has grown up (or too big) - Didn't research the breed? You're not getting a puppy, you're getting an adult and very soon. Is that what you wanted?

6. Behavioral problems (barks too much, etc.) - Again, did you research the breed? Did you research the breeder? Stay away from mills, backyard breeders, stores and unpredictably bred dogs. Be prepared to train your pet!

7. Children have lost interest or are too busy with sports/play - Are you ready to be the owner if they stop?

8. Elderly no longer able to care for - Do you have a long term plan?

9. Vacation - Can't afford to hire a sitter/drop-in, kennel your pet or take along with?

10. New or lost romance (new/old partner no longer wants) - It's your commitment ultimately. You can't shop a "life" for someone else. You must be willing to step in and step up.

Please think about the long-term commitment, financial responsibility, moral responsibility (e.g. spay/neuter, heartworm prevention), and work involved when you bring a pet into your home.

It's true, we are working on titling and building a very select breeding team. Unfortunately this means it will be some time before we have puppies.

In the mean time there are some great options for finding a really good puppy with a history of healthy parents who conform to breed standard.

The first is the American Lhasa Apso Club Breeders list. This is a list, by state, of breeders who have been deemed to conduct reputable breeding practices and produce great companions and sometimes show dogs. https://www.lhasaapso.org/resources/find-breeder

Next would be the Good Dog Lhasa Apso breeders. While not all of these may actually show their dogs, each has been determined to conduct health testing and conform to a quality breeding practice. Good Dog offers payment protection and does screen buyers as well as breeders. https://www.gooddog.com/lhasa-apso

The AKC marketplace search is another option but don't confuse this to mean more than it does. This means the breeder simply has bred AKC registered dogs. It does not necessarily mean they conduct the best selective breeding practice or follow good neonate temperament enriching practices. It does mean it's better than any backyard breeder, store or puppy mill operation however. https://marketplace.akc.org/search-puppies?fbclid=IwAR0Dyb211Q87bRh0R4MGJWPv-acKj-QqIMezdtdov3VImmLyUG6IZQJgKu4

Do your homework on the breeder no matter where you get your pup!

And always feel free to message us or ask any breeder from these lists who they would recommend.
