Sometimes a horse shows up in your life to remind you that growth does not happen fast. Smokey is that kind of horse.

He will be six this spring. A Warmblood and Appaloosa cross standing a sleek 16 hands, with movement that makes you pause and pay attention. The kind of horse that looks like he was made for an English saddle and a rider who believes in softness, not force.
Smokey is not a finished product. He had a solid start and several good rides, but he has been sitting for the past six or seven months. He will need a restart and someone experienced enough to guide him back into work with patience and consistency. He is not ready to ride off tomorrow, and that is exactly why he is priced where he is.
In the round pen, he listens. He tries hard to understand what is being asked of him. Out in the open, he still gets unsure. He is not dangerous, just young and honest about what he does not know yet. He wants to trust, and once he does, he gives everything. But he needs someone calm. Someone steady. Someone who will not rush his process or mistake his sensitivity for defiance.
He is wonderful for the farrier. He loads and unloads easily, ties, bathes, leads, and picks up all four feet. He is easy to catch in a smaller space and may test your energy a little in a large field if you are not grounded. He is not head shy unless you come in fast. Move with intention and softness, and he will meet you with the same.
He has a gentle heart and a lot of try, but he is not a beginner horse. He has been quiet and kind with kids on a lead line in the round pen, though he still needs a confident adult to guide him.
He is built and moves like an English horse. Dressage, lower level eventing, or jumping could all be in his future. He is a bit too sensitive for the noise of a Western show environment, but he could truly shine with the right rider.
You are welcome to come meet him and see how he feels to you in the round pen. He sells as is. I cannot offer extended rides or multiple visits, and his price reflects his time off and where he is in his training.
Smokey was not the right fit for his previous ownerâs goals, and he does not fit my program right now either. That is no oneâs fault. Sometimes a horse just needs to find their person.
If you believe in slow beginnings, soft hands, and quiet leadership, Smokey might be the kind of horse you have been waiting for.
