Hi Friends! Quick Chick Update! 🐣

So I just checked My Pet Chicken… and wow. They’re selling Blue Ameraucanas, Cream Legbars, Easter Eggers, and Olive Eggers in a mystery bundle for $20 per pullet chick. 😵 Yeah, goodbye. HAHA

For anyone waiting on Black Copper Marans:
Their next hatch availability is looking like fricken August, and MPC has them listed at $15 per day-old chick. That’s not something I’m able to match if I’m sourcing through them, and honestly, at those prices more better to drive out of state to a reputable breeder and bring home significantly better quality birds.

So that’s what I’m weighing right now! I’ll share more details once I know what direction I’m going; I just wanted to keep you all in the loop. 😄🐓

Your Favorite Broody,
Loki ❤

🐗 Boss Pig Gets Her Day 🦶

Today Piggy Pedicure is coming to the farm and their target is Miss Pua Pig’s bratty self.

Pua is getting her hooves trimmed for the first time in six years. She's always been too busy being a menace to need it. Enough steps, enough attitude, enough chaos to keep her hooves naturally filed down.

But age changes things. She's slowing down slightly, and it's time for professional care. I already paid the naughty piggy fee in advance because I know my pig.

Pua has outlived so many animals on the farm, defeated every rehoming attempt I have ever made, and once nursed a calf. She is a boss pig. A brat pig. The founding animal of this farm and its most ungovernable resident. She has protected the homestead from loose dogs and won every fight she has been in. I have witnessed her “protect herself” from would-be adopters who genuinely loved her and wanted to add her to their family.

She does not do s**t she does not want to do.

So I am nervous for the Piggy Pedicure team but confident in their pig handling. They are brave for even showing up. We will see how this goes.

They’ll be here in 45 minutes. Updates to come 🤺

Just 9 resilient Black Copper Marans left from this Meyer Hatchery shipment 🐣☃️

Hatch date: Mon 3/9/26

Their resilience is truly inspiring, and I'm thrilled to announce that despite the challenging overnight conditions during transport, these little champions have emerged, and I affectionately call them The Tough Club.

As our standard brooders struggled to keep up with the recent cold snap, I've moved the babies to the tried-and-true OG style: chick bins and heated lamps

Colorado Springs is giving away trees 🌳🫨

(Full transparency: I just came across this and wanted to share. Not my program, not my project.)

The application window closes March 18, 2026. That's in four days 😱!!!

The COS Forestry Division launched Grow Shade Together, funded by a federal grant. They identified low-canopy areas across Colorado Springs, and they're offering free tree planting to residents in those zones.

You tell them where on your property you want the tree. Their staff foresters review it, coordinate the utilities location, and approve and plant your new tree. Planting happens between April 20 and May 22.

The whole thing is FREE! This map shows the project area in green. I’ll post the link in the comments.

Honestly, some neighborhoods have zero shade. Kids walk to school in full sun. Streets heat up in the summer. This won't fix it overnight, but it's absolutely a wonderful place to start ❤️

Rotational grazing is especially important on small homesteads like ours, where we manage about 5 acres total and need every piece of grass to pull its weight.

Instead of animals camping out in their favorite spot and turning it into a dirt lot, they graze smaller segmented paddocks and are moved daily. This way plants have time to regrow. It also spreads 💩 more evenly, reduces parasite buildup, and helps a witto acreage like this support livestock without the pasture slowly giving up on life.

Welcome to Blossoms & Bees Homestead 🐝🌼
We’re so glad you’re here! Blossoms & Bees Homestead is an educational, hands-on homestead experience for all ages, created to connect our community with nature, animals, and the beauty of simple living.
Our journey began in 2018 in Fountain, Colorado, where we started out as your favorite local chicken source. What began with a love for raising animals and providing fresh, responsibly raised poultry slowly grew into something bigger—a passion for learning, teaching, and building a true homestead lifestyle.
As our vision grew, so did our roots. In 2020, Blossoms & Bees Homestead moved to Callahan, where we’ve continued to expand into a space designed for education, exploration, and connection.
Today, we offer experiences that include: 🌿 Farm and animal education
🐐 Petting zoo-style visits
🐓 Learning about chickens, goats, cows, and more animal care
🌼 Nature-based learning
👩‍🌾 Homestead skills and hands-on discovery
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Experiences for children, families, and community groups

Whether you’re a childcare program looking for an educational field trip, a parent wanting meaningful outdoor experiences for your child, or an adult curious about homesteading life, there’s a place for you here.

Thank you for supporting small beginnings, growing dreams, and a homestead built with heart.
Welcome to the farm 🤍🐝
