Happy Thanksgiving Eve from our little pack to yours! We are so thankful for our healthy and strong momma and her beautiful puppies!
They are doing great, all gaining weight and momma is definitely eating for 12! Haha! π₯°β€οΈπΎ
It is worth noting, as I watched Kiaora prancing around beside me, with her tail up and waving, while we were outside for her potty break and fresh air. (Only hours after delivering ELEVEN big beautiful pups mind you!) that there are some dogs who truly LOVE to be mothers, they carry well, birth easily, brighten up having puppies beside them and you basically have to help save them at weaning time because they will happily continue to be a milk bar for their pups even after they are on solid foods. Kiaora is one of those! π₯°
(Saga was not, unfortunately, hence why we retired her so early despite the incredible pups she had.) Around here, the dogs do come first. Some females, just aren't happy/healthy being moms and they have a hard time from start to finish. It is important to us that our dogs are both. And yes, it has cost us more than you could imagine to do the right thing by our dogs over these many years, not the "financially right" thing for us. Many years, we have ended up in the red by choosing the right thing for our dogs vs recouping the huge amounts that we invested.
I say this to point out just how thankful we are that Kiaora is such an amazing mom and that all 11 puppies are healthy. ππβ€οΈ It is VERY rare to be able to have both.
Today, on Thanksgiving Eve, I have been thinking about how blessed we are to get to experience these incredible, joyful, and even miraculous moments of breeding, not just the hard, tiring, and painful side of it which seems to pop up so much more frequently.
Days like today really make it all worthwhile.π₯°
*Some cute pictures of the 12 of them during this morning's nap, after getting weighed.*
