Daisy follows her owner around town. He doesn't have a car or a job. He lives next door to pitbull breeders, family members. He said he's not going to breed Daisy and wants to have her fixed. He'd never be able to do that himself, as he was hunting change for a soda when we ran into each other today. We sometimes provide her with dog food, but her owner said she usually prefers the table scraps she gets.
We are making an appointment to have Daisy spayed, shots, dewormed in November. We will update when she's fixed. She'll go back to her owner on a street in Montevallo where no one fixes their dogs, ever, and where most dogs like her have been bred on chains for puppies.
I was invited inside a home to see the new puppies a month ago. That mom dog was in a XL crate with her litter in the foyer. No blanket, no room to stretch out, nothing. Daddy dog was chained with other dogs in the yard.
We don't agree with any of it, but until we have a law against backyard breeding, we will offer the dogs food sometimes and encourage good animal care and compassion.
