Another outstanding Michigan Taxidermist Association (MTA) Show has come to a close! I was fortunate to have a very successful weekend with my standing wood duck entry. I also entered my first whitetail and was honored to earn a high second-place finish in the professional division.

I had the privilege of judging the youth, novice, and commercial divisions. To those who received critiques, I look forward to seeing your continued growth and even more impressive mounts next year.

This year was truly one to remember, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work pay off. I’m grateful to have received the following honors:

• Public’s Choice – Best Bird
• McKenzie Taxidermist Choice – Best Bird
• Frank Newmeyer Most Artistic Bird
• First Place – Waterfowl Masters Division
• Masters Best of Category
• State Champion Bird

Thank you to the judges for recognizing my work, to my fellow taxidermists and mentors for your support and expertise l, and to the MTA for hosting such a phenomenal event.

A few weeks ago before we got hit with this cold cold weather Da Outdoor Hour said hey let’s go sturgy fishing and I got a couple ducks for ya. So we saved him the trip over and got to knock off a bucket list fish and the first one happened to be a master angler for me! Steve Zanin with Scalez and Tailz Taxidermy also got to get his master angler as well as a tagged fish. In all was a blast and non stop laughing! Thanks Denny for the invite!
