Kole Price and Golden Coins made history at The Run For A Million in Las Vegas, posting a record-setting score of 237.5 in the Million Dollar Competition at the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center, with awards presented by Wolverine Boots and Apparel.
The 2020 stallion, affectionately known as Zeus, is by Spooks Gotta Gun and out of Electric Cha Ching. He is owned by Coin Toss LLC and bred by Silver Spurs Equine.
The score surpassed the previous world record of 236.5, set by Andrea Fappani and Custom Legends at the 2007 National Reining Breeders Classic. That mark remained untouched for 19 years before Price and Golden Coins raised the bar at this yearβs The Run For A Million.
For Price, the key was trusting the preparation and allowing Golden Coins to do what he does best.
βI did a really good job this year of blocking out the crowd and just riding my horse,β Price said. βThose special horses just rise to the occasion.β
Price said the run itself felt peaceful despite the magnitude of the moment. He focused on the rhythm and flow, even writing βflowβ on his hand before entering the arena as a reminder of what he wanted to execute with Zeus.
βI knew that if I had a clean run and ran my run that he was gonna do what he needed to do,β Price said.
Before the competition, Price had been asked what it would take to win.
βA score no one has seen yet,β Price said.
That is exactly what he delivered.
Following the historic performance, Price credited his wife, the Roberts family, Don and Joetta Bell, Jason Donahue and everyone who has supported him and Golden Coins along the way.
βIt is not about all the wins. Itβs about how you know you have your group and theyβre there with you,β Price said.
