MEET THE HERD MONDAY: KATAHDIN EDITION 🐐

The second half of the mountain duo, Katahdin, arrived at the sanctuary in May of 2023 with Kineo, Ben, and Jerry. The biggest and possibly the bossiest goat his main goal in life is to be as comfortable as possible. Always lounging on his platform this boy is a big fan of group snuggles, long days in front of the fan and absolutely any treat he can get his little mouth on. When he does make his way outdoors he loves climbing in the hay hut with his buddy, eating grass, or lying out in the sun. With long legs and no personal boundaries to speak of you can often find him up close and personal with your face or squeezing between you and another goat for some loving. This big boy has no shortage of love which he shares with everyone who meets him and we love having him part of this family.

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: KINEO EDITION 🐐

Kineo arrived in May 2023 with his buddies Katahdin, Ben, and Jerry after his family’s situation changed. As part of the big goat duo, Kineo can have his bossy moments, but most of the time you can find him snuggling, or play-fighting with one of his friends. He loves using his height to hop into the hay hut, grab delicious snacks from the trees, or knock food bowls out of unsuspecting human hands for quicker access to a meal. Although completely capable of chaos he often brings quiet energy to everyday life in the barn. Less aggressive than some about asking for love he softly sneaks into your space and before you know it, you’re petting him like some kind of love ninja. This loveable character brings fun and joy to everyone who meets him.

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: LILY EDITION 🐑
Lily came to the sanctuary in June of 2023 after her family moved and was unable to bring her and her best gal, Cece, with them. Lily is easily our spiciest sheep and has no problem sharing her opinions. This girl is as bold as they come and makes her needs known whether that’s for love, food, or for you to move out of her way. She lives life on her own time, always the last to roll in to a meal. She is a world class napper who specializes in finding the coziest spaces. When she isn’t napping, you can find her grazing in the field with the herd or enjoying the fan in the goat barn. This girl brings main character energy to everything she does and the sanctuary would lack some serious sass without her.

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: STELLA EDITION 🐐
Stella arrived at the sanctuary in December 2022 with her best friend and snuggle buddy, Hank, after her family’s home situation changed. They say nothing is perfect but it could be argued that Stella is practically perfect in every way. Though the smallest of the herd she never lets that stop her from doing what she wants. She brings a calm and quiet presence to an otherwise chaotic bunch. You have to work a little harder for Stella’s love but it’s all worth it when she asks you for pets. Stella enjoys nothing more than a good meal, a nap in the sun, and time with her best buds Annie and Hank. She is easily the nicest, sweetest, coolest girl at the sanctuary.

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: Ferdinand Edition 🐂
Ferdinand, also known as Ferdie, came to the sanctuary as a fresh baby with his soon to be best friend, Lily, making them the sanctuary’s first rescue. If Lily considers herself the queen Ferdie definitely thinks of himself as the king of the fields. A big boy with an even bigger personality, Ferdie lives his life on his own terms. He is equally selfish and sweet and may be one of the funniest animals on the farm. If mayhem is afoot Ferdie is almost always attached in some way. Are we thankful everyday that he was born without horns? Yes, but mostly we are just thankful he was able to live at all. The life of male dairy cattle is usually too short, so we are happy to watch Ferdie live a long life. He may be the king of chaos but we wouldn’t want it any other way. The menace, the myth, the legend: Ferdinand

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: LILY EDITION 🐄 Lily was born on a dairy farm, but was deemed too small and was set to be slaughtered. The sanctuary saw her, and her soon to be best friend Ferdinand, for $30 on Craigslist and instantly stepped in making them the first NEAS sanctuary animals. Lily is the self-appointed Queen of the farm and takes her role very seriously. Definitely the planner of the duo she wants everyone to remember she’s not just a pretty face. She’s an excellent snuggler when she’s in the mood, and loves spending her days lounging in the sun, eating all the hay, and enjoying the company of her fellow subjects. Lily is a strong independent woman, and we all strive to be more like her!

Did you know that the sanctuary sits on about 161 acres? 🌲🌳While a portion of that is dedicated to fields and buildings an even larger part is this beautiful forest. Before the sanctuary moved in this land was often used for hunting, but now the woods have become their own kind of sanctuary. The land is home to many deer, turkeys, ducks, and a whole host of other animals lurking throughout. Even on a dreary day like this, it’s a magical place to take a break and clear your mind. ☔️
