MEET THE HERD MONDAY: LILY EDITION ๐Ÿ„ Lily was born on a dairy farm, but was deemed too small and was set to be slaughtered. The sanctuary saw her, and her soon to be best friend Ferdinand, for $30 on Craigslist and instantly stepped in making them the first NEAS sanctuary animals. Lily is the self-appointed Queen of the farm and takes her role very seriously. Definitely the planner of the duo she wants everyone to remember sheโ€™s not just a pretty face. Sheโ€™s an excellent snuggler when sheโ€™s in the mood, and loves spending her days lounging in the sun, eating all the hay, and enjoying the company of her fellow subjects. Lily is a strong independent woman, and we all strive to be more like her!

Did you know that the sanctuary sits on about 161 acres? ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณWhile a portion of that is dedicated to fields and buildings an even larger part is this beautiful forest. Before the sanctuary moved in this land was often used for hunting, but now the woods have become their own kind of sanctuary. The land is home to many deer, turkeys, ducks, and a whole host of other animals lurking throughout. Even on a dreary day like this, itโ€™s a magical place to take a break and clear your mind. โ˜”๏ธ

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: CECE EDITION ๐Ÿ‘ Cece came to us with her buddy Lily in June of 2023 after her family moved and was unable to bring them along. Cece is the absolute sweetest girl! She is patient with her fellow sheep and goats and may be one of the least demanding animals in the whole bunch. When Cece wants some love, usually in the form of chin scratches, she simply stands near you until you notice her adorable face. When sheโ€™s not asking for lovin you can find her out with her gal pals enjoying the field, eating snow, and lounging in the shade. Cece is an absolute gem and the herd wouldnโ€™t be the same without her!

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: HANK EDITION ๐Ÿ Hank came to us in December of 2022, with his best friend Stella (pic. 5), after their loving family could no longer care for them. Since then he has become a staple around the farm. He LOVES attention and demands it by way of sneak attack b***y slams. Hank is almost always the first goat to greet visitors and steals the hearts of everyone who meets him. When he is not focused on love, or dinner, he can be found lounging in the sun or hanging with his big cow friends. Hank is easy to love, and hard to avoid, but we wouldnโ€™t have him any other way!

MEET THE HERD MONDAY: SALVATORE EDITION ๐Ÿ“ Salvatore came to us after living outside for an undetermined amount of time this winter. A very kind family found him laying under their bird feeder with terrible frostbite and took him in for the night. They reached out to us and we quickly made space for him. He was sweet right from the start and immediately perked up with some food, water, and a warm place to live. He was quarantined away from the rest of the flock while we watched his health and allowed the frostbite to heal. Since then he has enjoyed being next door to his friends while he waits for a flock of his own. Heโ€™s a beautiful boy and we love having him as part of the crew!

We had a busy weekend here at . All the residents had their annual wellness exams and vaccines by our farm vet on Friday. The cows got their annual hoof trimming on Sunday. It is quite the ordeal. We have to coax them into a chute and then there is a hydraulic lift on the chute that lays them on their side so they can have their hooves properly trimmed. We try to keep them as comfortable as possible during the process using lots of grain and pets.
