One year old male named Thunder is looking for a home. Has tons of energy so he will need someone who has the time to train and energy to walk this big guy.

Heโ€™s not at the shelter as heโ€™s at the foster home. He is a German shepherd/poodle mix.

If interested in him please complete an application and notify us as we would need to bring him to the shelter for a meet and greet.

Pendletonโ€™s own John Bloomfield was awarded โ€œAnimal Control Officer of the Yearโ€ at a recent event for Kentucky shelters held in Louisville Kentucky.

This prestigious award came as a shock to John when his name was announced as the recipient.

John works tirelessly for Pendleton County saving the lives of many animals. At times this is no easy task as he endures unimaginable consequences trying to save animal lives from harms way.

His day doesnโ€™t end daily at 5 pm as heโ€™s often summoned in the middle of the night for an animal in need.

While dogs seem to be his main focus, heโ€™s chased and captured cows, goats, horses, and a noteworthy accomplishment of rescuing an Emu. He crawls underneath houses and porches, hangs off bridges to retrieve animals too scared to come to his gentle command. Heโ€™s picked up maimed animals on the side of the road and rushes them for emergency veterinary care. ๏ฟผ

Being the countyโ€™s only ACO (Animal Control Officer), heโ€™s spread thin for the number of calls received. He cares very much for the safety and well being of animals.

Please join us in congratulating John for this well deserved recognition. John, you are appreciated for all you do for our community. Congratulations !!!

We again received a No Kill plaque for maintaining a no kill status for all of 2024.

This is a huge achievement for a shelter especially in these hard times where dogs are constantly running stray and/or dumped on back county roads.

The shelter has dealt with large numbers for a while now with no end in sight.

We applaud the Animal Control Officer John, the Office Manager Taryn, and our volunteers for taking care of these dogs to give them the love and attention they so desperately deserve.

Thank you Pendleton County Animal Shelter!
