The Bulldogs won their first two games of the MSMABA State Tourney this weekend at the MiniMet in Jordan. The Bulldogs defeated Prior Lake 3-0 on Saturday. Joshua Loewen threw a CG shutout. Jay Tauer continued his torrid State Tournament hit streak carrying over from 2021 when he had 10 hits in 4 games. He reached base all three times with two hits and a walk. The Bulldogs played solid defense in the win.

Sunday it was Trent Larson who led the Bulldogs on the mound giving up just one hit in the Bulldogs 11-1, 5 inning win over Menagha. Chris Freeman led the offense going 3 f 3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Jon Marsden added 3 RBI.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday in Jordan as they look to defend their MSMABA title from last year.

The Bulldogs are MSMABA Champions once again! The #1 seed Bulldogs defeated the #2 seed St. Peter Saints 8-5 in an exciting game on Sunday in Hanska, MN to claim their second championship in 3 years. Tied at 4-4 going into the bottom of the 6th inning Tim Thoreson led off with a line drive single to left. With Saints left-handed pitcher on the mound Jay Tauer laid down a perfect push bunt up the right side of the infield and dove into the bag head first to just beat the throw.
With one out Jake Swartout lined a single to left to score Tauer from second to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead. Joshua Loewen and Trent Larson followed with hits and all of a sudden the Bulldogs had 4 runs in the inning and led 8-4.
Corey Tauer who was in relief for Larson induced a fly ball to Loewen in centerfield to end the game and the Bulldogs were the 2021 champs.
Larson went the first 4 innings after throwing 3 impressive innings the day before.
Loewen finished the game with 3 hits, 3 runs and 3 RBI. Jay Tauer had 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Garrett Retka had 2 hits and a RBI.

Notes:
* Darryl Grover who began as the field manager back in 2006 has led the Bulldogs to all 4 of their State Titles in 2009, 2012, 2019 and 2021.
*56 year old Jay Tauer led the Bulldogs with 10 hits in four games and played a spectacular second base without an error.
*Trent Larson and Corey Tauer both picked up 2 wins on the mound. Both earned a win as a starter and a reliever during the tournament.
*Chris Freeman played a solid right field on Sunday making two running catches in the gap.
*Special thanks to Ed Hadash who is recovering from a shoulder injury was present all tournament and kept book and was a bench coach. Always keeps the dugout positive.

The Bulldogs are en route to Hanska for the MSMABA Championship game. The Bulldogs play the St. Peter Saints at 4:00.

On Saturday night the Bulldogs came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Minnetonka Millers 9-5 and advance to the MSMABA Championship. The Bulldogs scored 2 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth and 4 in the sixth to complete the comeback.
Joshua Loewen started for the Bulldogs and went 4 innings. Trent Larson entered in the fifth inning and earned the victory. Loewen also collected 2 hits for the Bulldogs. Jay Tauer continued his torrid hitting collecting 2 more hits. Jake Swartout had 2 hits while also knocking in a pair of runs. Joe Nance and Mike McCallion also had big run scoring hits.
The Bulldogs will play St. Peter for the Championship Sunday afternoon at 4:00 in Hanska. St. Peter advanced to the final game by defeating Rosemount 6-3.

The Bulldogs traveled to Hanlin Field in Hanska, MN for the MSMABA Quarterfinals and beat the Apple Valley A’s 10-1 on Sunday. Trent Larson (pictured left) threw a CG, 2 hitter just allowing one run while striking out 7. Jay Tauer sparked the offense going 3 f 4 with 4 RBIs. The ageless 2nd baseman has had 5 hits in the first two rounds of the tournament while playing his typical incredible defense. Tauer has had a couple of plays which has left opposing teams and his own teammates wanting to confirm he is 56 years old. Joshua Loewen and Corey Tauer also had 3 hits with Tauer adding 3 RBI. Larson also contributed 2 hits offensively.
The highlight of the game included a spectacular diving catch by CF Chad Krueger.
The Bulldogs have not committed an error and have given up just three hits in their first two games.
They will advance to the semifinals next Saturday and will take on Minnetonka. More info to come.

The Bulldogs won the opening round game of their MSMABA State Tournament with a 10-0 win over the Northfield Millers. Corey Tauer threw a one-hit CG shutout. The Bulldogs banged out 15 hits. Trent Larson had three hits while Jay Tauer, Garett Retka, Jon Marsden and Jake Swartout each had two hits. Special thanks to the Southwest Outlaws and the St. James Veterans Field volunteers as they were great hosts. It was a fun atmosphere for the State Tourney. The Bulldogs return to action tonight as they play Apple Valley at Hanlin Field in Hanska. First pitch is at 6:30.

The Bulldogs Holiday Party was festive despite the Gophers loss and a snowstorm on Nov 30th. The Bulldogs were able to celebrate their third State Championship in 11 years in style with current players and alumni.

Burnsville wins Class AA title; Rosemount, Apple Valley place in Class A
