THIS IS HOW WE DO ITâŚ..
With antelope season only seven days away, we thought we would talk about some of the questions we get from hunters, successful enough to draw a tag. After waiting for years, everyone wants to know exactly what to do and how to ensure that they can get their harvest to us successfully.
â˘âď¸August is a tricky month, with high temperatures and very remote camping. With that, we highly recommend that our customers skin it as quickly as possible down to the base of the skull, and keeping as much of the cape below the brisket and around as possible. Donât feel comfortable skinning it out? No problem. Feel free to come in right after you harvest it and let us take care of helping you get it done. Just give us a call ahead of time to let us know youâre on your way. We try to be there as much as we can during the day but if you need to come in late at night or early in the morning, we are available 24/7.
â˘đĽśkeep it cold and dry. A cooler with ice is great as long as the hide is on top of it, out of the water and dry at all times. The best method is to think of it just like the meat. The last thing you wanted to do is spoil.
⢠đťđ¨ Get it to us as quickly as you can. While a cooler may work for a few days, in high heat the potential to spoil goes up. If youâre hunting with a group, make a trip to town, get some groceries and drop it off with us. We can take care of the rest.
đ¨We know for years, lots of people talk about salting their hides, but we DO NOT recommend doing this, unless you plan to be out for MANY days, donât have access to a cooler and you know the process. In the event, any piece of meat is left on the hide and you have salted, It has the potential to not only damage the hide but has potential to slip during tanning- if done incorrectly.
âď¸ Still have questions? Donât hesitate to give us a call.
