The best feeling in the world?

Working with a 'too much' dog and getting it 'just right.'

When you know, you know.

Today is training tidbit: Tess working on molded positions for the very first time. This is a skill that she will need in the intermediate group dog class. You can see with Tess's body language in this video that she finds this pretty challenging. So that makes it extra important to work on.

That's right folks! The Canine Connection Institute WILL be available for enrollment in just about two months!

Last enrollment I had to close EARLY because all the spots filled up, so if you want to be the FIRST to know about CCI opening enrollment, comment ME and I'll add you to the "Early Bird" list.

Today's training tidbit: Maxi working on the parkour skill "around."

This skill is basically a directional skill, telling the dog whether they should go up and make a left hand or right hand turn around an object

๐Ÿ–ผPicture this: your adorable puppy is doing something naughty. (AGAIN)๐Ÿ˜œ

Probably not that hard to picture, right? ๐Ÿ˜…

And then your spouse, your family member, your well meaning friend, your neighbor, your vet, or Doctor YouTube tells you the BEST WAY TO FIX IT!!! ๐Ÿ˜‡

Is to put a shock collar on the pup. Shock them when they do that bad thing. ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜”

And your brain hitches cause... Yeah... I bet if I shocked her, she wouldn't jump on the guests. ๐Ÿค”

But you KNOW there is something off here. You don't want to go around harming and scaring your puppy. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

But people keep telling you 'this is how it's done.' Maybe even authority figures tell you this. ๐Ÿคฏ

So around and around you go, knowing in your gut, your heart, and your moral compass that this is NOT what you want to do.

And yet still having the behavior you DON'T want happening.

Well! I am here to tell you, you are RIGHT. Do Not Shock The Dog!

Why?

Because inducing fear and pain is NOT going to make your dog respect you. Or want to be around you. Or want to listen to you.

It's going to damage your relationship with your dog.

AND.

It can damage your dog's relationship with the very situation you were trying to 'fix' in the first place. ๐Ÿซข

If you shock that puppy when they are jumping on people, you can actually make the puppy AFRAID of people. Yikes. That's not what you wanted!

Instead, if you teach the puppy alternative ways of greetings, then the puppy can 1) be successful and 2) continue to LOVE people, which is what you ultimately wanted anyway.

So, if you're someone who wants help with your puppy, but the people around you are giving you advice you REALLY don't want to use, comment ME. I have LOTS of free training videos. I am happy to help you with a skill or two!
