Lifesaving tip for when your dog swallows something sharp:

Not long ago, my dog accidentally swallowed a thumbtack during our walk. I panicked and called the vet right away. She told me that for sharp objects, it’s best not to induce vomiting as it could harm their esophagus on the way back up. Instead, it’s recommended to let it pass naturally. The vet advised me to feed my dog lots and lots of bread, ideally slathered in olive oil. This way, the thumbtack would hopefully get packed inside the bread and pass through her system safely!

I followed her advice, and my dog thought it was the best day ever (haha). The vet said to keep an eye on her behavior and ensure she was eating and drinking normally without any visible discomfort. It should pass within about 24 hours. Of course, if anything seemed off, I could take her to the vet immediately.

And sure enough, almost exactly 24 hours later, the thumbtack came out encased in her p**p! Here’s a picture of the thumbtack alongside the dog in question.

I just wanted to share this tip in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situation! Hope this helps.

TLDR: If your dog swallows a sharp object, feed them a ton of bread with olive oil right away.

Walking your dog has many benefits, including:

Exercise:
Walking is a low-impact exercise that's good for your dog's joints and cardiovascular system. It can help dogs maintain a healthy weight, burn calories, and improve their overall fitness.

Mental Stimulation:
Walking provides mental stimulation by exposing your dog to new sights, smells, and wildlife. It also helps dogs release excess energy and sleep better at night.

Socialization:
Walking your dog helps them meet other dogs and become familiar with their neighborhood.

Bonding:
Walking your dog is a great way to strengthen your bond with them. Spending time together while walking and playing helps build trust.

Urinary & Bowel Health:
Walking your dog helps keep them regular and prevents constipation and bladder infections.

Mental Health:
Walking can improve your mood by releasing serotonin and dopamine, which can help relieve symptoms of depression and stress.

Help us find a "forever home" for precious Sheila, a beautiful 5yr old trained, loveable Red Healer Cattle dog mix.
Sheila was adopted at 2 months old by her loving dog mom Amarilis. She was taken to the vet for her updated puppy shots and was diagnosed at 4months that she would be deaf in both ears. But that didn't stop Sheila from being loved for her next 4 1/2 years.

By sad circumstances owner Amarilis is now losing her home and being forced to surrender her dog for adoption.
We are hoping to avoid putting Shiela into an adoption shelter as it would be devastating to her and especially being deaf. This is a special case and we are hoping to find a caring loving family willing to take Sheila into their home to love her for the rest of her life.

Shiela is healthy and updated on all vaccines and will be due again in July of this year for rabies update. Although deaf, she responds very well and is leash trained and follows hand signals.

She is sweet and loving and is Not high energy. She likes to play and will play with a ball, run around with friends in fenced in area only
and then she will go to her bed and hang out.

Owner has done all the bathing for Sheila in the tub and her nails have stayed trimmed by daily walking. So professional groom would be new adventure but owner thinks she'll be fine. She has boarded in a home with 3 other dogs and has done well. 🙂

Sheila likes to sleep in her dog bed or in a good sized crate, she is also good in house left alone she will lay down - but new owners would have to trial this out in her new space.

She is good with kids and other dogs - no cats please -
She gets a little nervous in cars but that can be an easy fix. She likes chasing leaves and will play ball with you.

Sheila is in good physical health and is presently 35lbs.
She is cream color with red freckles and comes with beautiful tall red ears that makes her so adorable. She is truly a beautiful dog worth loving.
Owner is presently in Lowell and willing to travel for meet and greets.
Owner will be the contact person for anyone interested in adoption.
Any other questions will be directed to her.
By email: [email protected] / or phone/text 978-401-7473
Owner is a full-time nurse so her schedule to meet will fluctuate.

We hope you or a friend you know would be interested in this precious little girl. Someone who likes to go for walks,or has a lonely male dog that would like a sister, or a family of kids willing to play and snuggle up with Sheila. Patience to establish communication and make a loving connection with this little dog.

Any help spreading the word is greatly appreciated.

I am a 21st century dog….
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for fighting bears.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.
I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.

I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.

Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.

I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.

You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!

If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.

I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.

So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.
