NEWS: Proposed 2023-24 Ohio Deer Hunting Season Dates & Bag Limits
Proposed deer hunting dates & DSA seasons are similar to those in 2022-23 and changes to county bag limits (3️⃣ & 4️⃣ ⤵️) are minor. If approved by Ohio Wildlife Council, the proposals will take effect for the upcoming fall hunting season.
1️⃣. Overall, season dates were proposed to align with 2022-23 calendar dates.
2️⃣. Disease Surveillance Area (DSA) Early Hunting
Archery: Sept. 9, 2023-Feb. 4, 2024
Early gun: Oct. 7-9, 2023
These changes are meant to increase the deer harvest, decrease the possibility of disease transmission, and limit the spread of CWD in Hardin, Marion, and Wyandot counties. (Doe harvest especially helps stop the spread of the disease.)
3️⃣. Increase the bag limit from 2 to 3: Belmont, Gallia, Geauga, Harrison, Jefferson, and Monroe counties. (County bag limit increases are designed to slow herd growth and create additional opportunities for hunters.)
4️⃣. Reduce Butler County bag limit from 3 to 2; allow the deer herd in this area to grow following an outbreak of EHD in the late summer and early fall of 2022. (Other counties were not as badly impacted and will recover in time.)
