And The Award Goes To ...
I am truly humbled and deeply honored to have been recognized alongside K9 Brina with the 2026 Lost Pet Search and Recovery Award.
To hear the words spoken during the presentation touched me more than I can fully put into words. This work comes from such a deeply personal place in my heart, and in that moment I felt overwhelming pride, happiness, gratitude… and grief all at once.
So much of lost pet recovery happens quietly — the long nights alone on camera watch, the tears shared with families, the setbacks, the hope, the emotional weight we carry for every animal still missing. To have that dedication seen and acknowledged was incredibly moving thruout the Ceremony.
And then there is K9 Brina, my number one girl and partner. Looking at her, I felt so much emotion. Pride in the work she represents, happiness for the lives we have helped touch, and grief for every case that leaves a mark on your soul. She is more than a K9 partner to me — she is part of my heart.
I want to sincerely thank Annalisa Berns, Pet Search And Rescue & Lost Pet Detection for this recognition and for the kind words spoken. I also want to congratulate every organization and individual recognized and nominated. The compassion, sacrifice, and dedication within this field is something truly special.
Thank you to everyone who has trusted me and K9 Brina during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Thank you to Judene Dyer for being such an amazing trainer and Kat Albrecht-Thiessen, Missing Animal Response Network for being such awesome mentor. A very special, thank you to all of you who volunteered to help us train, you made the difference and helped get us to those final trails and across the finish line. Thank you for the ones that volunteered to be our Flanker out working live cases, your support in the field and team work, such a blessing and joy to have you both along on cases Lisa Cockrum and Sherri Ochoa.
