Brewster Street Farm - Journey's End Refugee Agricultural Program The farm is owned and operated by the Green Shoots for New Americans program, a Refugee Agricultural Program with Journey's End Refugee Services.

The Brewster Street Farm is an urban farm run by Green Shoots for New Americans, a program of refugee farmers through Journey's End that fosters and promotes food sovereignty, agricultural business planning, and marketing skills. The purpose of the program is to support refugee farmers in urban farming and food sovereignty by providing technical assistance, education, and necessary supplies in ord

er to enhance their farming skills, English skills, business and marketing techniques, increase their income, and provide for healthy eating habits. By promoting food sovereignty through urban farming, we aim to give food system autonomy to the farmers while giving back to the community that the farm is located in. We are hopeful to create partnerships that will assist in the sustainability of this program. We are happy to accept donations in terms of land, farm tools and supplies, money, and more! All donations are tax deductible and will be used help the farmers become independent.

A huge thank you to the students at Nichols School for all the help on Friday! We were able to build a garden bed, plant fall bulbs, and create storage space for our farmers! The weather was beautiful and we accomplished so much. Many hands make for light work and the farm appreciates the extra help as the fall season gently approaches.

Tomorrow!

Join us for Slow Roll Buffalo's fourth annual Harvest Roll on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, starting at The Nickel Plate (1500 Clinton Street, Buffalo, NY, 14206). This curated ride and fundraiser supports urban farms and food systems across Western New York.

The Nickel Plate will open at 11:00 AM, with the ride kicking off at 1:00 PM. It’s an 18-mile SQUAD-led ride, with three stops at local urban farms for produce samples and stories, followed by an afterparty with food, refreshments, and a vendor market. Tickets include limited edition swag, seeds, and more!

First stop: 5 Loaves Farm
More than just an urban farm, 5 Loaves is a living classroom where community members learn vital skills through the practice of farming. The farm fosters connection and community, while cultivating over $45,000 worth of "beyond organic" produce, distributed through their CSA, neighborhood farm stand, farmers market, and local schools.

Second stop: Brewster Street Farms
An American refugee agricultural program, Brewster Street Farms provides adult refugees with adaptive farming and marketing skills. Farming offers refugees a livelihood that promotes self-sufficiency, healthy food, extra income, and integration into their new community. The farm offers a variety of locally grown organic vegetables and herbs, providing income to the refugee farmers.

Final stop: Buffalo Go Green
Buffalo Go Green promotes agriculture and wellness on Buffalo's East Side with a mission to "grow the neighborhood." They operate raised bed and hoop house farms, as well as hydroponic container farms, working at the intersection of food justice, food systems, and Food as Medicine.

All ticket holders will receive a sample from each farm's weekly harvest and hear from the farmers themselves. Along the route, snacks and refreshments will be provided by The Blend Bars and Libby’s Lemonade.

Afterparty at The Nickel Plate
After the ride, we’ll return to The Nickel Plate, Western New York’s newest spot to sip, savor, and shop. Enjoy food and beverages from their kitchen and browse the vendor market, all inside the historic Niagara Frontier Food Terminal.

This event is made possible by the generous support of the Food Policy Council of Buffalo & Erie County. 🌾🚴🏽‍♀️👩🏽‍🌾

This Spring, the farm was awarded a grant to help create an area that could be used by the community to enjoy our urban green spaces. We wanted to focus on native plants! Several months and a lot of hard work later, we have created a native plant garden with a nice sitting area! Thanks to our agriculture students and volunteers, we have revitalized an overgrown, unusable area already in use by pollinators. The native plants we chose are perennials, and will come back every year once established. If you are interested in seeing the garden in real time, swing by the farm and check us out! Swipe through the photos to see the before and after!
