Maybe you’ve seen a beautiful brown pittie before, but Walter has a very special, rare talent: HIS TAIL DOUBLES AS A SUNDIAL! ☀️🙊

Walter is 3 years old. He was recently treated to some adventure time with our awesome volunteer, Sam. In the comfort of a home, he showed us how nicely he can chill out, relishing the opportunity to lounge with a toy and simply be a dog. 🥹

Interested in meeting our unique, one-of-a-kind pittie/sundial mix?
Stop by CBAS anytime we’re open!

Enjoy today's sweet edition of our :

Sometimes the sweetest souls wait the longest. Dogs like Poppy sit quietly with hope still tucked inside their hearts, waiting for someone to truly see them. Poppy spent five long months at the shelter, followed by a couple more in foster care, before her mom and dad finally found her and gave her the love she had been patiently saving up all along. Long-term dogs are not forgotten hearts. They are deep wells of loyalty and resilience. And oh, how we celebrate when someone finally says, “You’ve waited long enough. Come home.”

Molly writes:

"My fiancé and I adopted Poppy in 2022. I had called the shelter to schedule a meet and greet and they asked who I was interested in. I listed a few dogs I had seen online and they mentioned that Poppy had been there several months and was one of the longest residents.

When we met her it was clear she was scared and had reservations about us, but she was so sweet and you could just tell she needed to be loved and in a quiet home.

Poppy decided on her second night in our home that she was NOT sleeping in her crate, she would only be sleeping in our bed. She didn’t know us very well then, but I think she knew she was at least safe there and would be warm and comfortable. She has slept there most nights since then.

It took several months for her to really open up, but she really blossomed with us. She found her bark, discovered she loves bones and rope toys the best, and started playing chase with her cat brother. She’s a very sweet and very silly girl.

She’s shown us that a little patience and a warm home can really change the life of a dog. As much as she’s grown with us, we’ve grown with her too.

Poppy spends most of her days basking in the sunniest spot she can find, playing with her rope, and snuggling on the couch with her parents.

I know the staff at the shelter really loved Poppy, and they were all so happy to see her find a home. I hope they know that she is very happy, and we're so happy to have found her. Thank you to the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter volunteers for everything you do!"

🐿️ Shepherd lovers, get ready to channel your inner squirrel, because you’re going to go NUTS 🥜 for Ellie!

Ellie is a young long-haired German Shepherd, and she’s every bit as stunning on the inside as she is on the outside. It’s hard not to smile in her company. 😀

She appears to be housebroken and, while she's on the skinny side, she still has a commanding presence at 58 pounds.

Speaking of commanding presences 🫡, the thing about German Shepherds is that they’re going to act like German Shepherds. 🐾
That means Ellie is going to bark at you walking by her kennel. She’ll likely patrol the yard, sniffing around and making sure everything gets her stamp of approval. She is the boss lady 👸 around other dogs.

Ellie will thrive with someone who understands and embraces exactly who she is. Give her guidance, consistency, and a little patience, and she’ll reward you with the kind of deep, loyal bond that makes Shepherd people love about the breed.

She’s awaiting adoption at CBAS 📍380 N Oak Street.

There is no place we’d rather be tomorrow than marching down Elmwood with our CBAS dogs dressed in their full pride glory. 🌈🐾

Join us at 11am for the Buffalo Pride Parade — our pups and volunteers will be walking with area Pet Supplies Plus locations, repping CBAS and soaking up every single second of the fun 🙌🥳

Our Buffalo community shows up for everyone, including the four-legged ones, and we are so thankful to be a part of it. Come say hi! 🏳️‍🌈🐕💛

It’s Saturday 🥳 and Skittles seems ready to taste 👅 all of the Milk-Bones… in addition to the rainbow. 🌈 😘

This teeny tiny pittie is about a year old and packed full of love. She greets everyone—humans, dogs, friends, strangers—with the same enthusiastic tail wag and giant smile. 😁
You might think that the red skittles are the best, but we’d argue the gray one is even better. 😍

Skittles has the energy you'd expect from a young dog: happy, goofy, and excited to be included in whatever is happening.
Most importantly, Skittles doesn't care who you are, where you come from, or what your story is. She exemplifies the unique pittie quality of loving fully, deeply and truly. 🌈🐾

In a world that could use a little more kindness and a lot more acceptance, Skittles is doing her part. She’s making the world a better place, and could bring so much joy into your home if you choose to adopt her.

CBAS is open today 9:30-2:30.

Draco is giving full pot-bellied pig energy: he will happily flop over for belly rubs, and the disappointment face he gives you when you stop? Devastating 🥺. Unacceptable. Do not do it!

He came to us alongside two female dogs and brings nothing but cool, calm, chill vibes wherever he goes. This man is unbothered. Unbothered and adorable.

Bonus points — Draco is potty trained, already neutered, and walks well on leash. We do want to be transparent though: this man is built like a literal tank, so come prepared with a sturdy leash. You're not really walking Draco so much as accompanying him.

If your dream life involves laying down for hours, taking things slow, and enjoying a few extra snacks — Draco is your guy.

Come meet him anytime we're open. He'll be here. Probably in the same spot.

✨ Feel Good Friday ✨

We are beyond grateful for Keira, owner of Ethereal Beauty Buffalo, who went absolutely above and beyond for our shelter animals this past February and March! 🐾

Throughout those two months, Keira donated a portion of her business's sales to Friends of CBAS - and the result? An incredible $5,000 raised for our shelter animals! 🎉 That generous contribution goes directly toward critical veterinary care, subsidized adoptions for senior and special needs animals, training programs, foster care, hospice care, and so much more 🥰

She also opened her doors for an adoption event that had our pups turning heads all day long! 🐶 One little guy even caught her eye in particular. She had a feeling adoptable Khalil would be the perfect companion for her CBAS dog at home, Brutus — and she was absolutely right. It didn't take long before he became part of the family, and we're happy to report that these brothers are now the best of friends! 🥹

The best part? They are already planning to fundraise and host our dogs all over again in September! If this doesn't make you feel good, we don't know what will!

Thank you, Keira - Buffalo's animals and our volunteers are so lucky to have you in their corner 🙏

When his foster mom, our shelter director Jen, mentioned how CBAS has been short-staffed, Newt took matters into his own paws and insisted on coming to work with her 👨‍💻. Dedication? He's got it in spades.

Turns out, however, bully breeds have some gaps on the resume- no thumbs for answering phones, can't process payments, and "speak" is still very much a work in progress 😅

But what Newt lacks in office skills, he MORE than makes up for in everything else. This guy is equal parts silly and snuggly. Despite the hustle and bustle of a busy shelter office, he was perfectly happy just soaking it all in by Jen's side. A true pro at keeping the vibe calm and morale high.

Thanks to his time in foster care, we've gotten to know this guy really well. He's already been neutered and this sweet boy is:
✅ Potty trained
✅ Crate trained
✅ Ready to be your coworker, cuddle buddy & adventure partner

Interested in giving Newt his forever home? Reach out to Jen via email at [email protected]

😲 Don’t worry, you’re not seeing double! There really are two of these beautiful dogs.

Akira and Estrella arrived at the shelter together, and while they enjoy each other's company, they're perfectly happy spending time apart too. That means you have double the opportunity to take home a beautiful girl! 😍

Both girls are about 5 years old, bully mixes, and undeniably large dogs at around 90 pounds each. They share similar personalities: easygoing, people-loving, and always happy with a belly rub. 👋

Both have been known to have VERY big feelings about small creatures, so homes without cats or small dogs would be the best fit for either girl. ❌🐱

If you have a dog at home who would enjoy a laid-back female companion, bring them to the shelter to meet Akira or Estrella!

It's not every day that the opportunity to add a loving, smushy cuddle bug to your family comes along. Stop by CBAS and meet these wonderful girls. ❤️
