Enjoy today's sweet edition of our :
Sometimes the sweetest souls wait the longest. Dogs like Poppy sit quietly with hope still tucked inside their hearts, waiting for someone to truly see them. Poppy spent five long months at the shelter, followed by a couple more in foster care, before her mom and dad finally found her and gave her the love she had been patiently saving up all along. Long-term dogs are not forgotten hearts. They are deep wells of loyalty and resilience. And oh, how we celebrate when someone finally says, “You’ve waited long enough. Come home.”
Molly writes:
"My fiancé and I adopted Poppy in 2022. I had called the shelter to schedule a meet and greet and they asked who I was interested in. I listed a few dogs I had seen online and they mentioned that Poppy had been there several months and was one of the longest residents.
When we met her it was clear she was scared and had reservations about us, but she was so sweet and you could just tell she needed to be loved and in a quiet home.
Poppy decided on her second night in our home that she was NOT sleeping in her crate, she would only be sleeping in our bed. She didn’t know us very well then, but I think she knew she was at least safe there and would be warm and comfortable. She has slept there most nights since then.
It took several months for her to really open up, but she really blossomed with us. She found her bark, discovered she loves bones and rope toys the best, and started playing chase with her cat brother. She’s a very sweet and very silly girl.
She’s shown us that a little patience and a warm home can really change the life of a dog. As much as she’s grown with us, we’ve grown with her too.
Poppy spends most of her days basking in the sunniest spot she can find, playing with her rope, and snuggling on the couch with her parents.
I know the staff at the shelter really loved Poppy, and they were all so happy to see her find a home. I hope they know that she is very happy, and we're so happy to have found her. Thank you to the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter volunteers for everything you do!"
