One of our favorite parts of the weekend: Private Sanctuary tours.
Small groups, up to eight people, come meet everyone in person. We walk through how the sanctuary runs day to day, who lives where, who’s in charge (ask Cookie), who needs a little extra patience right now.
The animals seem to know when visitors are coming. Even the shy ones show up.
Link in bio if you’d like to book one.

We are heartbroken to share that our little Poppin crossed the rainbow bridge.

Poppin was already an elderly horse in her 30’s when she arrived at Martha’s.

We were told her horse companion of 30 years had recently passed away and little Poppin had gone into a deep depression. These animals grieve just like the rest of us. Poppin needed companionship and we welcomed her to MFAS to join our herd of mini donkeys.

We introduced Poppin slowly and carefully to our donkeys and before long she fit right in! Horses and donkeys are herd animals and they need companionship, just like we do.

We share so many characteristics with these animals, all you have to do is study them.

Poppin was at least 38 years old, which is quite old for a mini horse, but she was spunky and opinionated and full of personality! Standing at just 3 feet tall, we’d often see her trotting around the pasture with her donkey friends, and it became apparent that she was the boss of them. We loved her strong and independent spirit!

She could be aloof with us but she loved the donkeys more than anything, especially our only male Donkey Harvey.

It was a privilege and honor to care for Poppin in her sunset years and provide her with a forever home.

We were willing to take on the responsibility and expense that comes with an older animal.

Here at Martha’s, we believe all animals have the right to grow old.

With love Nikki and John 🫶🏽

Naming ceremony complete.
For the past month, this little guy has gone by Lambie around here, an easy, unofficial name for a lamb who arrived not too long ago and quickly won everyone’s heart! He spent his days close to John, and quickly finding his footing with Cookie, Eve, and Cotton.
Now he has an official name: Baa Baa. Chosen through our recent auction by a generous supporter who named him after her great grandmother’s own pet sheep.
It’s Baa Baa from here on out!
